Ring stuck on my finger

Your local Jewellers will be able to cut it off as a last resort. Get your hand very cold and stit with your elbow on the table so your hand is up in the air. It's surprising how it comes off in the end. My rings are fo r tiny hands and I regularly try to take them off as I now have horrid wrinkled red things on the ends of my arms. Today going into the garden my hands are icy. Good luck

Try wrapping some string, wool, whatever around the finger on the finger tip side of the ring to squash the swelling a bit and when it has reduced try inching the ring towards the finger tip and repeating the process until it is free.

Keep the offending ring finger raised up (which sounds rude). Don't leave the string on too long or too tight.

It might work if the finger is swollen with fluid better that if it is all on the bony joint though.

magsmay The same thing happened to me. We have no jeweller in the area. Had to go to hospital to have it [the ring] sawn off. By gum, it took some doing. Good wishes.

I don't think I could get my wedding ring off now, due to enlarged knuckle. I try not to think about it. It is quite loose on the below knuckle bit of finger. Unless it's uncomfortable, just don't panic. Leave it there.

Jings I wouldn't have had my ring cut off if it had not become embedded in the fleshy part of the finger. After several hours the finger went numb and was a weird colour. The nurse who removed the ring had to try three different saws. She was unable to get a blade under the ring. We still don't have a clue as to the cause of the swelling. The finger resembled a sausage. The hospital in Oban was a 65 mile drive away. It was late in the evening when we eventually made the journey.

My ring had to be removed before surgery, but it stuck at the knuckle. Eventually a special tool was produced (sort of secateurs) and it was cut by the surgeon who was going to do my lumpectomy. She did say "This is not one of the surgical tools . . .)

That sounds awful soop. I have always had a bony knuckle so luckily mine had to be a bit loose to start with. I did used to be able to get it off though.

Ok,when I've dealt with this as a emergency I've that iced water ie water with crushed ice In it and washing up liquid or soap works most of the time.
You have to keep your hand in the water until it is numb

I had a very wide wedding ring, fashionable in the late sixties. It got too tight to remove so I had it cut off, melted down and made into one for me and one for daughter, who chose to have it for her wedding ring.

My wedding ring has been cut off and enlarged twice now, hopefully it`ll last me out now!

Hope it's off now, magsmay. If you're taking advantage of the "string round your finger" tip, it's important that you start winding the string from just above the ring, up towards the fingertip, not down towards the ring. It may sound obvious, but wasn't to me when I got it wrong first time...

I have two; a very tiny original and a larger one that I bought when I was pregnant with child number four. During a very slim period a few years ago I put the smaller one on and it has been stuck there until today. When I was reading this thread I realised that it was actually quite loose and it just might be possible to take it off - and lo and behold it was. I am now wearing the larger ring and only when I am at my target weight will I replace it with the smaller one again. In the meantime it feels good not to have that 'this ring is stuck forever' feeling.

Both DH and I have had to remove our wedding rings and have them made bigger. I was on holiday and I got unexplained swelling in just the ring finger. DH developed what he thought was arthritis in his fingers, so very painful, removed his ring and within a day or two the pain was gone and has never returned. My wedding ring was very wide so I had it made narrower while it was being enlarged.
I often had to cut off rings in A&E and used a tin opener type tool.

Have you tried the ice?

Try taking a darning needle (blunt so you don't prick yourself) threaded with a length of medium weight cotton thread, pass it through the ring, take the 2 ends of thread, and with a sawing motion, ease the ring off slowly. It does take a bit of perceverence but works usually. Good luck!
