Fund Raising

A beetle drive takes me back almost 70 years. We used to have them at the Church hall and while great fun then, would, I'm sure be too tame for today. Have you considered a race night? It is some time since I went to one but they were always successful. I don't know where one rents the films from though. Mr Google may help. Just thought WI may not approve gambling however innocent!

A remembrance, a beetle drive is rather like playing hangman,would this appeal to your members?

That takes me back.....great fun! I could imagine lots of people enjoying it a lot. Surprising how competitive one becomes. Of course you could just have a Scrabble evening, or a games evening with all kinds of old fashioned games....even Happy Families.

Quiz nights usually go down well.

How about hiring a skittle alley? I just did a quick google and there are companies hiring all sorts of fun traditional games or giant garden games like giant jenga. No idea of cost as you invariably have to contact them for prices, but there may well be special deals for charitable fundraising events.

Thinking back to PTA fundraising, beetle drives and bingo with a break for tea and cake were very popular with the older residents of the village where my children went to school.

A race night with wine and beer attracted the parents and their friends and brought in a fair amount. It was a little bizarre to see people getting so carried away watching old films of horse racing.

We had lots of fun baubles and as you said lots of money was raised. People "bought and named" their own horses and got a small prize as the owner. It does involve a lot of people though to organise and run, perhaps better suited to larger organisations than the W.I. Happy times then.

As well as Race Nights one can hold Casino events - Google should be able to help there too.
