Last night I went to see Barry Manilow at the 02. My daughter and I have even been to Las Vegas to see him. Most people who know me don't know I like him and would be very surprised if they found out. Im seen more as a rock- chick (The Boss) and a classical buff. Who or what is your guilty pleasure?

On the same theme Humbert, I LOVE Meatloaf and bellow his songs at the top of my voice while I am driving (don't tell anyone but I have even been known to do air guitar at traffic lights and I do know that isn't entirely apt!) blush I also love frozen chocolate flakes.

Oh, definitely chick lit! Given my very literary background, it would (and did) surprise people that I'm happy just to consume a good story without having to work at it! So - Maeve Binchy, Marion Keyes, Celia A'herne, Jill Mansell et al. Not Danielle Steele though.

Ditto, Ariadne. Similar background, similar tastes. Also detective stories (most recently Scandinavian ones) and some Sci Fi, specifically Ian M Banks.

Humbertbear, it's The Boss for me too - he can do no wrong! Van Morrison (oh, and Status Quo....hmmm (!) Francis Rossi (blush)

Don't know if I dare own up to my secret addiction! Oh go on then - we're all friends here! I adore The Dubliners - especially lovely John Sheahan the fiddle player. Saw them in concert 18 months ago and sat in the front row seats nearest John and he gave me the most winning grin. He is a superb musician and a really nice guy. I love Irishmen and their twinkle! grin

Queen - if there is no one about I put on a CD and dance around to any number. Have been known to play 'air guitar'

dorsetpennt Wed 16-May-12 09:14:24

ooh - read the same above to T-Rex

greenmossgiel Wed 16-May-12 09:15:40

Love the Dubliners, Gagagran! Also the Fureys and the Chieftains. There aren't many of their concerts in this part of the country, unfortunately. sad

Given my background of History and Music ,people would be surprised by the fact that I'm a devoted follower of Formula One.

Sci fantasy! Anne mcCaffrey and others! Wish those dragons were real!

You know I haven't checked out any Dubliners music for year, always relating them to that daft song they had out many years ago. In my youth I lived with aguy whose sister had lived with one of them and I'm sure we had a guitar or a mandolin that had belonged to one of them. I'll utube them now and see what sort of stuff they're playing these days. I went to see Blowzabella the other week; thought they'd split up a long time ago and never thought I'd get to see them play live. the music is very marmite, but worth checking out if you like folk music.

Barry Manilow for me, too, although I wouldn't go to see him in concert now, his voice isn't what it was and he's looking a bit odd these days. I loved him in the 80s though - so much energy and personality! OH is very sarky about my DVDs....hmm

glassortwo Wed 16-May-12 10:44:55

Football grin and Michael Bolton did not rate him at all until DH suggested going to see him as there were tickets left at our local arena, but I had to go down that afternoon and collect the tickets before that evening's performance and went into the arena to the cash office and he was rehearsing with all the auditorium doors were open and he was belting out Nessan Dorma.... oh I was hooked wink he was singing just for me smile

Also Kenny G.

Anagram Wed 16-May-12 11:02:25

(Just realised I meant CDs, not DVDs! blush)

Why should you feel guilty about such innocent pleasures? confused

Anagram Wed 16-May-12 14:50:50

Just a turn of phrase, absent - I suppose it means we realise that some of them are considered by others (and possibly even ourselves!) as a bit....naff/cheesy/awful! wink

nanachrissy Wed 16-May-12 16:00:16

I can't resist vampires (I know that they're not real, but I really wish they were), so The Vampire Diaries is my favourite TV prog.

Not entirely dissimilar I also love Barry Manilow grin

Anagram Wed 16-May-12 16:29:11

nanachrissy! shock
grin

Brass bands, we`ve just booked tickets to see Black Dyke band at the Boston Stump in June.

Annobel Wed 16-May-12 16:43:08

OOOOH chrissy!

greenmossgiel Wed 16-May-12 17:09:43

Love brass bands, number! My old father-in-law played in and conducted the brass band attached to the colliery in which he was a miner. Beautiful sound! The collieries all had their own bands in those days, and his won the competition at the Albert Hall! smile

Ariadne Wed 16-May-12 17:34:33

A sneaking liking for Country and Western music!

Annobel Wed 16-May-12 17:39:17

green and Ariadne, I share those pleasures and feel not a bit guilty about them. grin

nanimoo Wed 16-May-12 18:39:26

I went with my daughter to see the New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys when they were here in April. Saw the New Kids first over 20 years ago. Donnie Walhberg was my guilty pleasure then. Still does it for me now.
