By rights I should hate Boris Johnson. He's everything I despise about our society. Privileged by accident of birth, Eton educated, rich from family wealth rather than person effort, Tory, totally unable to imagine life as an ordinary person....the list is endless. But then Boris opens his mouth and the most bizarre words come out. He makes me laugh and how can I not like a man who makes me laugh? How can you not laugh when a politician (people who normally watch every word they say) comes out with,
'As I write these words there are semi-naked women playing beach volleyball in the middle of the Horse Guards Parade immortalised by Canaletto. They are glistening like wet otters and the water is plashing off the brims of the spectators' sou'westers. The whole thing is magnificent and bonkers.'
I can't help it. I love Boris.

I used to love him on HIGNFY
A lot cleverer than he pretends and aiming to be the next PM.
He's very likeable, isn't he? I don't like his politics or his behaviour in terms of his wife, but there's no doubt he works hard and doesn't take himself seriously.
He's fine as Mayor of London and I love him in interviews, but I don't think the country's ready for Boris Johnson, Prime Minister.
when he can't take himself seriously can he I was watching being interviewed just after he had been to have his hair cut and he was very proud of it,it looked as though it had been cut with a knife and fork.
and he is a very clever man as greatnan has mentioned.
I love him!! I think he's great because he doesn't take himself seriously. The trouble with too many politicians is that they think they are the bees' knees!! And take themselves too seriously. And a previously said, he's a very clever man - again a rare quality in politicians.

vampire; as a lifelong Labour voter I have to say the same. I think it's his appearances on Have I Got News for You that made me love him
. there's something anachronistic about him; should be in Three Men in a Boat and suchlike.
I suspect that the jovial facade conceals a serious and ruthless politician. I wouldn't trust him any more than I'd trust any of our current government.

Perhaps the Labour Party should kidnap him - he's too funny for the Tories!
I know what you all mean. I'm died-in-the-wool labour but I can appreciate a larrikin, in spite of his politics.
Oh I'm sure he's a serious and ruthless policitian...he wouldn't have got where he is without being a total and utter bathplug but he makes me laugh.
God I'm so shallow
I've been telling him to get a haircut every time I see him on TV, and he finally did.
I told an American e-friend - 'he's a clown, but he's our clown'.....
PM....? Oh my gawd!

Not sure what is behind the scruffy buffoon charade.
It is an odd facade to choose really, if it is deliberate. My theory is that there is an efficient team behind closed doors making the mayors office work. And that they have another team devoted to making sure Boris does not do any damage. And remembers to do his flies up.
Havelock Vetinari he aint. Surely.
He was cringingly embarrassing at the bejing closing ceremony - did not behave "properly" at all when meeting Chinese top govt officials - suit buttons all undone and generally shambolic.

I read an article which was a peon of praise to Boris's superior intellect - written by his sister.
He reminds me of Patrick Moore!
I think I get it, Ella - it's the OTT gestures and the way he talks, isn't it?
...his general flamboyancy!
Just his general nuttyness!

but voting for someone who is nutty and amusing...
nonu WYT?? sorry I don't get it ?
I don't think we were talking about voting for him, Jess - just comparing his mannerisms to those of Patrick Moore...
