I would like to say that as a Scot, I am embarrassed by the opening of the Games. We are a cultured nation, not that one would know that from that awful opening.

Agree with you crow. Acutely embarrassed.

besottedgran Wed 23-Jul-14 21:27:38

Sorry,*Crow*!

Gosh! I think that the budget must have been awfully small.

Perhaps we were spoiled with the 2012 games?

I've seen better poorly rehearsed school productions.

The Queen looks lovely though.

Notso Wed 23-Jul-14 21:29:29

The first bit was a bit difficult to watch!

It may pick up.

I enjoyed Amy McDonald's song and all the dancing Glaswegians. Pity Rod Stewart had to come in on it - she was doing a great job without his help.

I'm always tempted to watch Susan Boyle through my fingers in case something goes wrong. tbshock

Glad you said that crow - the start was awful. Rod Stewart and Susan Boyle were good and the dancers and the arrangement of '500 miles' were really good though! It's gone off again though! sad

A good alternative to the Opening Ceremony is to catch up on Gransnet.smile

DH has just come in and thought I was watching Crufts!

Soutra Wed 23-Jul-14 22:05:01

Loving the Scottie dogs though tbsmile

I thought that it was just me not enjoying the start and even cringeing at times. Apparently the amount spent was 500 and odd million and Alex Salmond said that the Commonwealth Games would be better than London where 7 billion was spent. I do not think that one could compare.

One also has to be a certain age and Scottish to remember Andy Stewart, that is going back a few years. Not everybody is going to recognise the Scottish songs sung by John Barrowman.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 23-Jul-14 22:19:16

Am enjoying it now the athletes are coming in. So smiley, and colourful.

Crow Wed 23-Jul-14 22:20:26

John Barrowman has very a very pleasant accent, not the nonsense he used in this Opening ceremony.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 23-Jul-14 22:22:13

Those dancers must be fit, to keep that up!

I did like the couple from the Scottish Ballet company. Lovely.

merlotgran Wed 23-Jul-14 22:33:41

I think the whole thing is dire.

merlotgran Wed 23-Jul-14 22:36:36

Who on earth designed the awful England uniform? The trousers don't seem to fit anyone.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 23-Jul-14 22:39:40

Did you see your lot Hollydaze?! smile

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 23-Jul-14 22:40:29

He's a big feller!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 23-Jul-14 22:42:28

Glasgow and NI always seem to have a special relationship.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 23-Jul-14 22:43:11

Wales look nice.

seasider Wed 23-Jul-14 22:45:21
