this really made me laugh

It's brilliant lol

Nelliemoser Wed 25-Nov-15 21:40:03

I just caught a bit of the Aldi advert. It really was very clever.

durhamjen Wed 25-Nov-15 21:59:56

I wonder what John Lewis think of it. I presume they have copyright of the idea.

Ana Wed 25-Nov-15 22:06:34

I don't think you can have copyright of an idea!

felice Wed 25-Nov-15 22:12:40

Thanks for posting I do not have UK commercial TV, I have only seen the adverts here, this one made me chuckle. I did not like the JL one.

Indinana Wed 25-Nov-15 22:22:51

I should imagine JL would quite like it. After all, it's free advertising for them too...

Charleygirl Wed 25-Nov-15 22:25:15

Very clever

Lapwing Wed 25-Nov-15 22:26:49

Brilliant, and probably cost a lot less to produce.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 25-Nov-15 22:31:50

They didn't have to put much thought into it though. And won't make any money for AgeUK.

Not a patch on the JL one.

Pittcity Wed 25-Nov-15 22:49:50

It might sell a few telescopes though!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 25-Nov-15 22:51:24

Crap ones! grin

Nelliemoser Wed 25-Nov-15 23:16:15

I doubt if JL would be worried. It's bordering on a parody come tribute. If JL started getting stroppy about copyright or such they would make themselves look very petty.
If they join in the "joke" its a win win situation.

Indinana Wed 25-Nov-15 23:23:46

It doesn't need to be 'a patch on the JL one' though, jings. The whole point of it is the parody, the joke. And I think they've done that pretty well.

Brilliant - made me laugh out loud! Still wont be buying from Aldi and especially not a telescope.

ninathenana Thu 26-Nov-15 09:33:03

Aldi home and ware stuff is usually very good. DH has had several power tools and hand tools from there.
Might think twice about the quality of a telescope though.

ninathenana Thu 26-Nov-15 09:33:56

Meant to say the add made me smile.

Stansgran Thu 26-Nov-15 09:36:35

But can you phone up Aldi ,put it on your card and have them send it out( the telescope I mean) you can only use cash in Aldi can't you?

annodomini Thu 26-Nov-15 09:44:13

Aldi and Lidl have both accepted card payments for a long time now. I can't remember when I last had to pay cash in either of them - maybe a good ten years.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 09:48:02

Indinana, I'm quite capable of seeing the humour in the ad, thank you very much. hmm It made me laugh. But the John Lewis ad goes a lot deeper emotionally. And that's not always an easy thing to do.

I'm not against the ad at all.

annodomini Thu 26-Nov-15 09:48:45

I've sent the link to my JL 'contact' to see what they're saying about it. I think they'll just have a good laugh.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 09:49:54

Yes. I think so. It's just another spin-off, like the Star Wars one. They will probably be pleased.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 09:50:13

Was it Star Wars? Can't remember now!

JamJar1 Thu 26-Nov-15 09:58:29

If anyone saw the recent Channel 4 Dispatches programme on Aldi, think it's still available to view, they might be worried about the chances of getting a telescope which hasn't been shattered. Staff are encouraged to throw things up and onto shelves to save time. This was just one thing amongst many more serious foodie concerns.

blackdog2 Thu 26-Nov-15 10:37:26

Oh dear, oh dear, aren't there some small minded anti Aldi fans on here! Oh come on dears, please get a life.
