There is a thread on MSE about farting (did warn you) and this posting had me and OH rolling about

^The day that one farts in front of their partner is always considered a milestone in any relationship. I remember my first time...

It couldn't be helped and it had to come out. It was loud and vibrant and there certainly was an echo. My girlfriend was livid, I could see the rage building up in her expression. Her parents didn't seem to mind so much, almost as if they were pretending it never happened. The rest of the congregation were not so polite and there were many tuttings and mutterings.

Still... there'll be other funerals.^

Not at all amusing, in fact quite tacky did you have a day off school today ?

Luckygirl Wed 03-Feb-16 17:18:17

I think it is funny.

Ana Wed 03-Feb-16 17:20:46

Not particularly funny, but why anyone should be 'offended' by it is beyond me...hmm

imagran Wed 03-Feb-16 17:23:14

LOL.

NanaandGrampy Wed 03-Feb-16 17:28:39

I laughed smile .

In our house , should I pass wind ( which of course I don't) my husband says ' pardon me' and apologises .

Well trained.

Usually blame the dog wink

harrigran - sorry you were not amused, but feel your comment was unnecessary. Have not had a pointed comment made to me on here before and now I know why some people get upset.

Grow up - if you don't like my thread don't read it.

In theory it was quite funny. But the phrasing of it wasn't very good. So much of the humour was lost. But I did chuckle slightly.

I might be overthinking it.

What I found funny was the way the embarrassment factor increased as the story progressed.

Oh dear, I suppose fart jokes are a bit childish to the more serious among us. DH, who is never amused by such things, always comments sniffily on the way my family goes into fits about such matters.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 03-Feb-16 20:27:10

No. It needed a bit of padding between the penultimate paragraph and the final one. confused

It's like a good story spoiled.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 03-Feb-16 20:27:28

I am over-thinking it.

There is always one who never fails!

Ana Wed 03-Feb-16 20:31:51

What do you mean, grannylyn? confused

NanaandGrampy Wed 03-Feb-16 20:34:08

Having had 2 DDs I was surprised to find how funny little boys find farting . Even some men too for that matter.

Even the word reduces my 3 little DGSs to hysterical laughter.

Penstemmon Wed 03-Feb-16 20:41:26

Most kids find bodily functions hilarious! But a primary classroom after broccoli or cabbage for school lunch is not the freshest place to be grin

Ana Wed 03-Feb-16 20:42:14

The number and variety of 'fart joke' birthday cards aimed at men and boys reinforces your point, NanaandGrampy!

grannylyn65 Wed 03-Feb-16 20:42:54

Whatever the post, someone doesn't like it!

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 03-Feb-16 20:47:08

hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 03-Feb-16 20:48:34

You wanna make something of it?

WilmaKnickersfit Wed 03-Feb-16 20:49:46

Well I thought it was funny and giggled! grin

Willow500 Wed 03-Feb-16 21:04:43

Me 2 grin

Luckygirl Wed 03-Feb-16 21:54:18

The worst possible place to be is singing in the row behind a line of cathedral choristers who have been fed baked beans for tea in the school canteen. It was somewhat difficult to concentrate on the beauty of the music!

Synonymous Wed 03-Feb-16 22:07:10

When I was growing up we were taught at school that "breaking wind is a perfectly normal bodily function and is not necessarily a social faut pas. Apologizing for that act draws attention to something which would be better ignored and therefore that is what is not socially acceptable. Likewise giggling, laughing or joking about it even through embarrassment is equally frowned upon as being unmannerly."

Sorry should have said "natural"!smile
