Has life got serious? Is it the age I live in or the age I am? I just don't seem to have a lot of laughs or fun!!
Look at children running in the park, babies playing with a toy, puppies or kittens chasing their tails, listen to teenagers on the train and what they all seem to have in common is their joie de vivre.
The best I seem to get is a cup of tea and a shortbread biscuit at the garden centre with my friend (don't get me wrong, a dear friend and exceedingly good shortbread) but it doesn't exactly set the world on fire.
Comedians regularly fail to make me laugh, jokes fall flat.
Oh and it is RAINING AGAIN
AIBU???
hmm

You don't have to let it get you down. At my exercise class this morning (all over 60) we all had a very good laugh.
Perhaps you are just mixing with the wrong people.

On Saturday morning I had an airing cupboard built at the top of my stairs, across the void that we all find so difficult to decorate.

Oh deep Joy smile

For the past four years I have had to keep all the bedding in the loft since my airing cupboard in the bathroom went when we had the new bathroom put in.

If I change the beds I have to get the loft ladder down climb up, throw the clean bedding down onto the landing, and then I have to retrieve two of my cats who think it's great to go up there and play.

Then I have to go back up because I forgot a sheet, and they follow me back up again and hide when I look for them smile

On Sunday, I sorted all the sheets and duvets and throws into some sort of order. As I was putting some stuff into the cupboard I sneezed violently and spat out the gum I was chewing right into the new cupboard.

I can't find it smile

Nonnie, ????. I've got no airing cupboard either. How do you get up to the New cupboard. I also find it difficult to paint the stairwell...quite dangerous.

I think I know what you mean Alea I don't have real fun- we laughed at our antics at Zumba Gold this morning but that's not what you mean I think. As for comedians well only something like HIGNFY gets a wry smile out of me. Cant remember when I laughed until I cried. I don't have girly nights out with too much chardonnay like I used to when I was at work - I miss those!! Yes its raining again!!! Might have an early G & T today.

It is positioned on the landing where the handrail goes across. It has a louvre door and it looks like it was always there. You cant tell where the wall was before as they finished it off with plasterboards.

I am no techie or I would take a photo of it to show you..

This is a photo I found on the Internet. Hope this explains.

My cupboard is finished off looking flush where theirs is not.

Nonnie you just made me inhale my tea & shortbread champagne & rich vanilla malt cake filled and frosted with silky Swiss meringue wink

Auntieflo Tue 31-May-16 14:29:07

How clever, but do you have to be careful not to bang your head when going downstairs?

wot Tue 31-May-16 14:38:32

What about bringing down furniture should you wish to move?

rosesarered Tue 31-May-16 15:48:51

Alea I do know what you mean.I wonder why it is so?Closer to the grave? ?

rosesarered Tue 31-May-16 15:49:30

Drinks all round!?????????????????

Gagagran Tue 31-May-16 16:06:37

Alea I also know what you mean. I decided that maybe I was feeling glum because I needed to upgrade my hairstyle so I had a complete new style just last week. Very short, choppy, younger looking. Looked great when I left the salon and I had lots of positive remarks BUT can I do it myself? Can I heck. It just looks thin and short and messy.

So I am back to feeling glum and wishing that I had left it as it was because I could at least make it look reasonable.

Just wish I could feel full of vim and excitement again. Has that feeling gone for ever? (And hoping that I can do something with this hair other than wearing a turban) sad

wot Tue 31-May-16 16:11:09

Alea, that's why I let my hair grow and grow. Once when I had it cut short the young boy next door burst out laughing

KatyK Tue 31-May-16 16:25:48

Alea Until I read your post I hadn't realised how long it had been since I had a good laugh or felt excited about anything although I am lucky that I have nice holidays, lunches out etc. I always seem to have something to worry or mither about sad

NotTooOld Tue 31-May-16 16:43:50

I'm alright - still some joie de vivre - but DH has turned into Mr Glum which pulls me down.

PRINTMISS Tue 31-May-16 16:53:50

It is strange that this should come up because I have, as a background on my computer a lovely picture of me and the other half, and a friend at Amberley Museum, where we were being presented with a 'thank you' gift for all our work over several years of running the Print Shop. We were not leaving, just handing over the reigns. I have my head thrown back in sheer delight - yes, I used to laugh like that, and my other half is beaming from ear to ear. Evidently I do still laugh a lot - they say at the bowls club, they always know when I am on the green! Not the same sheer enjoyment though for some reason, and I am not unhappy.

Grannyknot Tue 31-May-16 16:59:57

I felt momentarily glum the other day because I realised that I would probably never fall "madly" in love again. I mean, like, besotted with someone grin

I was out with my daughter this weekend, she made me laugh so much at one point, I couldn't look at her for fear of having a Tena moment. grin

Nonnie1 Tue 31-May-16 17:34:48

Auntieflo and wot, the man measured the head height on the sloping part and allowed for over six and a half feet, so you do not bang your head at all, and as for moving house, I don't think it will pose any problems at all. I had the self same thing installed in my other house and when we moved I never gave it a second's thought.

As an aside.. I got my hair restyled on Saturday and now have a medium length bob.

When I got home nobody said a word.

wot Tue 31-May-16 17:47:32

Grannyknot, perhaps I will fall madly in love with someone but are they going to want an old woman with skin like crepe, double chin and pot belly. If he had the same I wouldn't fancy him.

Bellasnana Tue 31-May-16 18:04:55

I know what you mean, Alea. I find it hard to find life 'fun' any more without DH to share things with. Having said that, I do enjoy your posts which often have me chortling out loud all by myself grin

I'm hoping the fast-approaching cruise with Galen is going to be filled with joie de vivre, heaven knows, we are both in need of some grin

Galen Tue 31-May-16 18:16:59

Trust me! I'm a retired doctor!

rosesarered Tue 31-May-16 18:19:03

Have FUN Bella and Galen where is the cruise headed to????

Galen Tue 31-May-16 18:22:09

I think we get a complimentary meal at one of the 'specialist' restaurants on embarkation day. I fancy the crown grill the lobster tails I had there were gorgeous. You can view the menu on line.
I know you don't eat meat, but do you eat fish etc?
