This is a rant ...please look away now if you're of a sensitive disposition
Grampy and I belong to a local gym. We chose it because it has an indoor and an outdoor pool and a lovely cafe ( not the most usual reasons I know but c'est la vie!)
My mobility is compromised and I don't want to use the gym, any classes or the racket club. In fact I couldnt use most of those things because apart from the stairs which are up 3 flights of stairs ( and that's 2 1/2 flights too many for me) the lift is a nightmare.
Someone has to be phoned to meet me at the top because it opens into a locked corridor. Sometimes when I tried they got side tracked and forgot me so I had to come down again to reception and give up because that's my walking done for the day.
So it's pretty evident that I can only use the pool.
So WHY can't I get a swimming only membership?? I have to pay the same as a member who can use EVERYTHING. Most days outside of school holidays the pool is almost deserted . I never swim at peak times ...why would I when I have all the time in the world so want to avoid any crowding.
I COULD use our local pool BUT it has no steps only ladders down the side despite being built for the recent London Olympics. It does have a hoist but I can't bring myself to use it .
I don't want to give up my swimming, it's the only exercise I do but I do feel I'm almost being penalised for being disabled.
Am I being unreasonable asking for a reduced membership fee because of the things I can't use or just being a grumpy old lady ?
