Hello - Does anyone know of any fun dance classes suitable for middle aged absolute beginners in Manchester/Cheshire area?

Check out Scottish dance groups. Always friendly people and plenty with two left feet.

Look at the Early Dance Circle's website. I'm sure there's a group near you. Early Dance means dance with an historical emphasis. You can learn the dances of the Elizabethan court, the English Restoration and, in fact, a variety of historical periods. It can be very elegant and stately and/or energetic and challenging. Thee's also the added interest of social context, costume etc. etc. We also get to dance in some beautiful settings - stately homes, castles, you name it.
I wish you lived near me as you could come to our local group
