I would be interested to know which movie maker software you are using. My new camcorder produces MPEG-4 files and windows movie maker cannot cope with those. I have to go into a convertor programme and turn them into WMV files. But there is still a problem when I load them into the storyboard of moviemaker - for some totally obscure reason the sound does not synch with the visuals and I get the sound from one lapping over into another.

Any ideas? - either how to stop that happening or a better freeware that I can download.

Well Mishap, I mostly leave the technical stuff to a friend. I'll ask him. But, I also have a free converter so for my own storyboard stuff (can't draw) and the rough cuts, I do convert to WMV files but I don't seem to have a problem using them in MovieMaker afterwards.

For the 20 min film we did we used FinalCut Pro and I had a lot of help but my computer isn't Apple so I can't use that one although I did a short course on it. I am planning to get the Windows equivalent but am researching at the moment and will need to upgrade the speed of my processor and get a separate hard drive.

But I don't think you need anything like as complicated to get good results and I like MovieMaker except for the lack of audio manipulation (You couldn't add the sighs as we did for example).

Sorry can't be more helpful but try putting in a search for converting files from MPEG 4. I use Any Video Converter which is a free download.

I'll ask my friend and also let you know when I find a programme just a bit better than MovieMaker but not so complicated as FinalCutPro and maybe you could do the same.

It's all a learning curve isn't it?

Thanks to all of you. We are all quite new to all this but haviing a lot of fun. The other film we made took a lot more work so we thought short films might be the way to go. Bikergran, I am fairly new to all this forum stuff so if you do start a new thread where would I find it?

Thank you for the advice. In fact this afternoon I downloaded a progrtamme called AVS Video Editor and it accepts MPEG-4 (so I don't have to mess about using my conversion software) and it also has an option to save to DVD and Blu-Ray which means I can very easily make DVDs for all the family. I have my fingers tightly crossed that this will be the solution that makes life as easy as poss.
