Watched this on DVD last night, DH's purchase. An exciting alien movie set in South Africa with South African actors, violent but didn't have to look away. www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/
I wouldn't want it as a present but it would be quite a good stocking filler for young male family members.
Just thought I'd mention it as they are so hard to buy for sorry if it's too early for you to be thinking of Xmas

I saw that when I was staying with one of my sons - can't remember which. It is a very good film, not just for young males.

Saw this film some time ago - I think it was supposed to reflect the racial segregration which was practised in South Africa. (The aliens in place of the black population). Parts of the film were quite insightful but not something I would want to watch again.

It's a great film, very innovative, shoestring budget. It is based on contemporary SA history as well as past racial segregation - nowadays there are problems with open borders and xenophobia, so some of the interviews with local inhabitants re the 'aliens' in the film are actual interviews at the time the film was made, taken from say newsreels and used in the film ... it has quite a poignant ending too and you can't help but have sympathy for the main character. I saw it in a huge cinema in Oxford with my adult son and it was so exciting.

This film was all a bit yeuch for me. Blood and guts on screen make me hide behind a cushion i'm afraid.
