Does anyone have any experience of this? After one year following bilateral cataract surgery, my right eye vision is quite blurry and today I am going to have the lens cleaned by laser at local hospital eye dept.
I know it happens but don't have anyone to tell me their experiences!
Anyone out there to comment please?

My lens clouded over a year after having a cataract removed, the laser treatment was very quick and painless, just had to look through a lens at a red light, only took about a minute maybe less and my sight was instantly back to normal.

I had my cataract operations 7 years apart, the laser op was onky required after one of those ops and this became evident about six months later. Not everyone needs later laser treatment and the time after the main op is as long as a piece of string, it all depends on whether you need it or not and when the operation becomes necessary.

What is the time frame on having laser surgery. I am going to have both eyes done, and would like to know how soosn after the first laser treatment is the 2nd one done.

Maggie P. My husband needed laser treatment after Three. cataract ops ( he only has two eyes) one unsuccessful ! The procedure took five minutes andhedidnt even know it happened. (It did the trick too). Don’t worry too much.

Dear betty19

You are not the only one. I have a defective artificial lens as well.I hear that thousands of people have been affected in other countries too.

My consultant is writing to the lens company on my behalf to ask them to pay for the costs of a second procedure but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not lining the pockets of any lawyers to pursue this.

Feel free to PM me if you want any further info.

I had cataract implants put in both eyes March 2012. I was never told anything about the possibility of cleaning, problems with lens, etc... I have just seen my second specialist and he told me about how the capsule could "film" and about the laser to "clean it off" He also said it's actually a "secondary cataract like film" that forma... But he quickly stopped the procedure because he realized that was not what was causing my cloudy vision. He confirmed that in my situation it is Actually that the lens have gone bad. They are defective... They are supposed to last a life time and in 4 yrs they were showing problems. It healed well, my vision restored to 20/20... It was Great... UNTIL the defective lens started to "spot up" can't be cleaned, etc... They can only be replaced!! This should not happen, but my research shows me that Busch and Lomb has been sued before for defective lens some yrs ago. Worst is that with a second surgery the success rate isn't as good, due to scar tissue,,, etc... risks are greater... For now I have to wait until Oct and have them checked again... I can keep my blurry vision that will worsen as the lens go worse... or pray and go for it... knowing I could end up with a whole other problem.... My thoughts for now, are to get the right eye fixed... and pray for the best.... and let the left one wait until it's bad enough I really need to... It's the type thing glasses, nothing helps, only replacing it.. I'm not a happy camper knowing this.... I am starting a search for a law firm to handle this... I can't for now find anyone else current with this issue, but I don't think I could be the only one... ;o(

I woke up this a.m. and it was just like it was the day I had the cataract removed. Unbelievable.

I had both of my eyes done with cataracts, and about a month ago, I start getting blurry in my right eye yesterday. He examined it and said I'd probably benefit from a laser clean up polish. He did it, and by night time I was seeing better, and today its just like it should be. No pain or anything, and only took a very short time today.

I had that done today on my left eye. I have multi focal lense in both my eyes and they told me I would have to have them cleaned in about 12. -18 months. It was easy peezie. I can already tell an improvement in my sight and ability to read. I had struggled with blurry vision for several weeks before I went to the doctor, and it took less than 5 minutes for him to zap it with that laser. No pain what is ever. this doctor has probably done a million of these things, though. I believe the comfort and discomfort, if there is any, depends on the doctor's experience and the patient's stress tolerance. It went well for me. Although I am not totally certain what he did with the laser to fix it, but it worked.

glass and nanachrissy thanks for being so nice.

glassortwo Thu 09-Feb-12 13:56:05

super glad its nothing to be concerned about, you are certainly getting sorted from top to bottom wink thanks

nanachrissy Thu 09-Feb-12 13:55:22

((Hugs)) Super, you do seem to have more than your fair share of "stuff".

thanks sunshine

supernana Thu 09-Feb-12 13:49:25

glass thanks Saw the eye surgeon yesterday at the Campbeltown clinic. Mentioned the crescent shadow. He hears many such reports from patients. No grounds for concern. Surgery has made a major difference to my vision. A1 smile
Went to see doc with a "smelly wee" problem. Have urethritis. Ten mega tablets to take to resolve the problem. It's all go, isn't it? grin

glassortwo Thu 26-Jan-12 20:45:17

super I would give the hospital a ring and just make sure its ok thanks

MaggieP Thu 26-Jan-12 18:10:19

supernana, no, there were no shadows. I did experience plenty of floaters after the cataract surgery, but no more than usual(!) after yesterday's treatment.
Today was a beautiful clear sunny day on the Norfolk Coast and I was able to see so clearly. sunshine

glass thanks I shall be having a check up in 3 weeks. Perhaps it will have sorted itself by then.

glassortwo Thu 26-Jan-12 14:48:25

super I didnt experience any shadowing after my surgery. Maybe you should get it checked out?

supernana Thu 26-Jan-12 11:40:31

MaggieP Lovely news. I'm pleased for you. thanks After cataract removal, did you experience a shadow in the corner of your vision? I'm delighted with the results of the op' but the shadow is a little irritating.

em Wed 25-Jan-12 23:08:23

Lovely! Good result then, Maggie.

glassortwo Wed 25-Jan-12 14:04:53

Pleased that is all sorted for you maggie

MaggieP Wed 25-Jan-12 13:54:52

All sorted!
I had my lens laser cleaned this morning. After dilating eye drops, then a local anaesthetic drop, I had to look straight ahead, watch a swirling red light for what seemed an age (5mins) and then the Doc said its done! The thick area has been removed and now I can see as well as when the cataracts were removed a year ago.
I am impressed how many fellow GN'ers responded to my thread, so, many thanks.smile

Good luck with that Maggie - nothing to worry about.
