Kidney stone broken up by shock treatment?

Not personally but it works and is non invasive. So much safer than operating.

I've had a stone blasted by lithotripsy. No problems wth it. The one I had that had to be removed by surgery was problematic. It grew bigger whilst I waited for its removal and caused me endless pain and infection. Get yours dealt with asap and you won't look back.

I didn't know I had kidney stones until they decided to leave home all together and the pain wa s quite something so get them done . I was on my own and doing t he usual self diagnosis decided I had shingles(I had seen a friend bent double clutching his sides) cystitis (couldn't wee)and slipped a disc (intense pain on my back). Somewhere in my pain hazed mind I thought don't be daft you can't have all three at once but they passed and it passed. Whe n it happened again there was family around who stared in disbelief. I was told by the surgeon that they were classic symptoms. It horrible so much better to get the laser treatment . Best of luck.

I associate the term "shock treatment" with electroconvulsive therapy, in which an electric current passed through the head.
Seems this takes several forms but most common a focussed wave of sound energy used.

I would have thought that ultrasonics would be used to break up any stones as it is also used for cleaning metals and could easily destroy stones in the body. So in that respect I would agree with Nelliemoser. I have asked my dentist in the past why ultrasound isn't used for cleaning teeth rather than the torture one endures every 6 months with the abrasive polisher on the drill, I guess it will be in time. In any event best wishes with the treatment Genevieve and lets hope it brings an end to your problems.

Thanks again to everybody for your help. Well, I've had the CT scan and am now waiting to see the consultant again for a discussion of what, if anything, needs to be done. I received a copy of the letter he's sent to my GP, in which he says that if the CT scan shows that the stone is causing no obstruction he will see me again in six months time. I am a little concerned about a cyst, which is also present in the same kidney. It's described as 'septated', so, not a 'simple' cyst. I presume they'll be keeping an eye on that, too. I'll be making a list of things I want to discuss with him when I get the appointment!

Gen489 if in the next six months you get the symptoms I described earlier they are classic stones on the move.

Genevieve: how awful, many sympathies. When I had a kidney infection and stones it was the worst pain ever.( worse than giving birth to a 9.5 pounder with no pain relief! ) Infection was sorted by antibiotics.While I was awaiting a scan, a friend told me that a consultant had told her to drink pure apple juice, the cloudy sort, not the clear concentrate. I drank gallons of it, by the time the scan came the gravel or stones were not there! The cyst they found is still there, but I was told it would cause no bother. It might be worth trying the apple juice, best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Lithotrypsi works well, is safe and as mentioned above saves pretty big surgery.
If it is an option - go for it
