Keeping cool at night.....the best solution ever.

My old dog doesn't like summer and the heat much, so last vet visit I treated him to a cool mat that he could lie on and, obviously, stay cool. But he refused to lie on it hmm so I'm miffed as it cost £20 and I'm thinking 'what a waste of money'.

A couple of nights ago, tossing and turning and trying to keep cool had one of those 'ah ha' moments you sometimes get when half asleep. Unearthed the cool.mat from its box, and put it between the bottom sheet and duvet at the end of the bed.

Instant bliss. Cool feet. That feeling you get on a hot summer day when you stand in the grandchildren's paddling pool. The perfect solution.

PS will have to go back to vet today to buy another as DH wants one.

lol Anya...? ...
I had one of those cooling pads for my pillow but didnt find it helped much as you have to keep moving your head for a cool spot and I found that the mat just got all creased and was uncomfortable to lie on....I do use a fan at night but the down side of that is I fall asleep whilst its still running and wake up with facial pain as its like having the wind in your face full on!

This pad is quite large ....bigger than a pillow. I did think about putting it under my pillow, but decided to put it at the bottom of the bed for my feet instead.

The dog's not having it back!!! grin

Even the quietist fan makes a humming noise which I find distracting.

Move to the North of England, you will never be too hot!

Ive bought a 1 tog duvet from dunelm. It's perfect as I like to be covered but can't be too hot because of night sweats. This is just the best duvet eversmile

f you happen to have a B&M store near you they also have them and much less than £20. Wonder if they'd be good for my hubbies restless legs?

Anya Tue 28-Jun-16 09:42:21

Tog 1 Chrishappy isn't that what us midlanders call a 'sheet' confused

I am a hot body, so I sleep all year round with several Chillows in my bed, moving on or off them throughout night. I see they now have men's underpants in their range, for increased fertility!

grandMattie Tue 28-Jun-16 09:46:27

i have used sheets and blankets since the year dot.
If it is that hot, the best way to cool down is to have a luke-warm [not cold] shower and lie in bed still -Wet-... learned when living in Seychelles, before the monsoon hit...

alemap Tue 28-Jun-16 09:49:19

Wish the weather were warm enough here to need something to cool me off!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 09:50:26

Well, I'm still starting the night with my bed socks on. They have got very loose fitting, through age, and slip off easily if I get too warm.

Lilyflower Tue 28-Jun-16 09:51:57

I am always freezing cold. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have to buy something to cool oneself down!

Anya Tue 28-Jun-16 09:52:46

Chillow? Mines a Scrufts Cool Mat blush .... I'd have thought men's underpants in that range might have cooled their ardour wink.

Thanks for that tip grandMattie but forgive me if I don't crawl into bed wet....and would that be naked too confused

grandMattie Tue 28-Jun-16 09:55:13

of course - unless you want to dive into the shower in your nightclothes grin

Anya Tue 28-Jun-16 10:02:39

Just can't sleep naked. What if there's a burglar, or a fire or the sky falls in or a flood?

Or the Amazon delivery man knocks on the door as he did at 7.00am this morning?
