Day bed, anyone?

Now that I no longer leave the house for work, I fancy a day bed in a certain spot in my lounge, near the big double doors so I can read in the natural light. Plus I could sometimes do with an extra guest bed. Do other people have these, and any recommendations?

My DD has one, from Ikea. It looks decadent and is very comfy - ideal for an afternoon nap!

My DD also has the IKEA one. Lots of big comfy cushions to sink into.

Remember to add a throw, something you will need as you drift off for a nap!

I have an original 1950s/60s Ercol daybed / studio couch which you can sometimes get on eBay or you can still buy them from Ercol. Very stylish.

shock It will encourage daytime naps and you won't sleep at night. hmm

Nah; I've permanently got a duvet on the sofa so I can snuggle under it at any time, day or night.

this one shouldn't tempt you to snooze for too long.

I like that one jbfrocks but not at 900 odd quid!

I'm up for an afternoon kip any time grin

Not exactly comfortable-looking, though, is it? confused

Grannyknot Wed 26-Nov-14 19:14:34

ana it is stylish and can be used both ends grin It must be the tropical-ness of it that appeals to me.

I like its clean lines too. Lots of the ones I'm looking at have got turned legs. Am now looking at chaise longues too!

Ana Wed 26-Nov-14 19:30:49

Now you're talking, Grannyknot! grin

Prefer to elegantly recline on a chaise lounge

Galen Wed 26-Nov-14 19:48:45

If you can imagine a small elephant on one?hmm

Just love my bigger settee, which seats four easily or me, reeling, with room to spare. Perfect.

Anne58 Wed 26-Nov-14 19:55:46

Ariadne ! I'm surprised at you, using (whispers) that word!

Ana Wed 26-Nov-14 20:04:43

Why? Is it non-U or something? confused

Nelliemoser Wed 26-Nov-14 20:06:44

I don't know why but an image of a woman reclining on a day bed seems to make me think of a consumptive just waiting to sing a final aria with her last breath.
I blame Giacomo Puccini.

nellie grin

What word Phoenix confused

Galen Wed 26-Nov-14 20:22:51

Consumptive? Me?

I am a firm fan of my Chaise longue......its an M&S one and I treated myself to it 5 or so years ago. It sits in a quiet corner where I sup my first coffee of the day and slowly 'come too'. Its also very good for that after lunch cup of tea and the odd chapter of a Donna Leon.

Grannyknot Wed 26-Nov-14 20:46:00

Oh, Hilda you've described my fantasy. smile

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 26-Nov-14 21:17:35

"settee"? Is that the word?

Should we be saying 'sofa' these days?

Nelliemoser Wed 26-Nov-14 22:40:24

Galen I was not thinking of you in particular. Have your hands warmed up yet? wink

Galen Wed 26-Nov-14 22:43:26

When's the next Donna Leon due out?

Galen Wed 26-Nov-14 22:47:03

Ah! By its cover! Bought! Shall read it on the flight to Venice!
