Indian man invents cheap, home-made machine so that poor women can make their own sanitary pads.

Now there's a man of genius. It's the combination of persistence, technological creative thinking and challenging shame and prejudice.

That man deserves to be recognised for his persistence.

I'm saddened by the realisation that school attendance rates were affected so much by something so basic. Women here also used to use rags - but sent them to the village washerwomen to boil and clean and send back. Some used grass/hay, I suppose it isn't as available in India!

I remember an aunt of mine in Eire used clean rags. I do not know what her daughters who are younger than me used.
