'Belching cows and sheep could be given supplements to reduce the methane they emit' say scientists apparently (today's Times).

Apparently they are thought to be responsible for 25% of methane emissions, and this is turn is 23 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse grass.

...and then there's me, Aka hmm

Granny23 Thu 06-Mar-14 12:07:39

Soop grin

Aka Thu 06-Mar-14 12:26:59

Are you responsible for the remaining 75% of emissions soop? shock

Riverwalk Thu 06-Mar-14 12:28:09

Greenhouse grass grin

Nonnie Thu 06-Mar-14 12:28:48

Should I move into a city? grin

Aka Thu 06-Mar-14 12:33:13

Possibly a good moo ve Nonnie but avoid retirement complexes I think.

soop Thu 06-Mar-14 15:02:27

Mock me not, Granny23 and Aka...when the wind is in the right direction...you're quite safe. blush

I'm sure they've been doing it in Australia for years.
However in Vermont they have been collecting the methane from cows and turning it into electricity.
The obvious way to stop cows producing so much methane is to eat less meat and dairy, then there will be fewer cows needed.

Windy cows? They want try being down wind of a farty dog! Expect serious climate change over Crufts this weekend grin

whenim64 Fri 07-Mar-14 10:04:47

Don't I know it Soutra. Nell will be having a rest from her Dentastix for a few days whilst I wait for the Febreze to overpower the aroma! grin

I have been trying to get hold of a book called "Noisy Bottoms" but it seems to be out of stock. It is one of those books where you press the pads down the side to make a noise appropriate to each page. This one sounds like something my grandboys would like!

Nonu Fri 07-Mar-14 12:01:31

My boys are the same , funny how little boys seem to find great humour in "Trumps" and winkies !
grin

Lona Fri 07-Mar-14 12:06:41

Not just 'little boys' either! wink

Nonu Fri 07-Mar-14 12:16:13

L O L ,

Nonnie Fri 07-Mar-14 12:51:51

Aka only just seen your Thursday comment love it. grin

Soutra we used to have a dog with 'personality' who used to sit under the dining table when we had dinner parties (remember those?) and make interesting smells! How come he never did it when it was just us eating?

Anne58 Fri 07-Mar-14 13:00:25

Maurice is often guilty of producing horrendous, stinky windy pops whilst sitting on my desk. He does that sort of "smile" thing that cats do when I complain.

annodomini Fri 07-Mar-14 13:17:57

Not just little boys. I know one of 41 who's a byword in the family for his spectacular farts.

Anne58 Fri 07-Mar-14 13:24:27

Mr P makes odd noises from time to time.

He swears it's a medical condition known as "Flatulating Kneecap" and is adversely affected by weather.

Of all types.

Soutra Fri 07-Mar-14 14:38:04

The advantage of having a dog of course is that you can blame him/her when company is present and you full well that it was DH (or even, perish the thought, selfblush)

soop Fri 07-Mar-14 14:43:37

VERY funny phoenix...must remember that one. grin

Aka Fri 07-Mar-14 15:14:04

jen HOW ON EARTH do they collect cow farts!

Elegran Fri 07-Mar-14 15:20:07

And do we really want to know?

Aka Fri 07-Mar-14 15:23:55

I do grin

No wonder there is a massive hole in the ozone layer directly over New Zealand.
