"Economically, seven of the eight English ‘core cities’ outside London have consistently performed below the national average in terms of GDP per capita, which is markedly different to the strong 'second-tier' cities of Germany, Italy, Sweden and France. In England's 'core cities' and beyond, there is a widespread understanding that the national economy needs regional rebalancing."

So, many people are happy to talk of decentralisation on the Scottish referendum threads, but are not interested in what IPPR North, the dedicated think tank for the North of England, with bases in Newcastle and Manchester, has to say on what a go-it-alone Scotland might mean to the Northern region?

Mabe it is a little early - it might get more readers next week.

Speaker Nick Clegg?
That's a vote loser, then.
Did we not have a vote in Yorkshire for a regioal assembly a few years ago? I think the answer might be Yes now.
