sad

Do not know the circumstances- but I have to say I am 'so glad' he didn't have to live the nightmare he would have hated- of years and years with advanced Alzheimers. Did he die of natural causes- as he was very much in favour of assisted death?

So sad, he was an amazing man. I met him years ago at our children's school Book Week, he captivated the children and certainly got my DS in to reading.
He's been so stoic in the face of having early onset dementia, a truly brave man.

I just read it on the Sky News site. There was no mention of the cause of death. sad

It has just been said it was not suicide

Love that! His twitter account just has the words 'The End'.

I'm so sad now. I feel I have just lost a very dear friend. I love all Terry Pratchett's novels. I' m going to have to read them all again.

Falconbird Thu 12-Mar-15 16:23:54

So sorry to hear this. My Dh was a huge fan. sad

shysal Thu 12-Mar-15 16:29:31

I liked the report that he died with his cat on the bed, surrounded by family. He described his condition as an embuggerance, which is so 'him'. R.I.P Terry flowers

Halfway through his last discworld book (raising steam) it will make sad reading from now on. His books have given me so much enjoyment.

J52 Thu 12-Mar-15 16:37:23

How sad, a lost talent. I remember, fondly, the Discworld computer game my DSs played. I also enjoyed playing, but didn't get very far!

RIP Terry. x

Death's final act - may he and Terry walk together forever.

MiniMouse Thu 12-Mar-15 16:53:18

sad Anya thank you for the link smile

constance Thu 12-Mar-15 17:05:27

Loved reading his books - one of the authors I 'trusted' to speak sense to my teenagers.

mollie65 Thu 12-Mar-15 17:17:43

enjoyed reading his books about discworld back in the 90s - such imagination
loved the quote about 'so little time' - thank you Anya for posting those.

Mishap Thu 12-Mar-15 17:24:16

Sad - but he died of natural causes and at a stage in his disease where he still was able to enjoy life from what I can gather. A very interesting man.

Lilygran Thu 12-Mar-15 18:07:10

Such a brilliant imagination! BBC news said he died surrounded by his family with his cat on his bed. As he wanted to.

Penarthgran Thu 12-Mar-15 19:35:50

He was the first author that my sons introduced me to rather than the other way around. They told me about a book they had read called "the colour of magic". From then on all three of us enjoyed reading the books and sharing the magic. My younger son's pets are called Gytha, Magrat and Greebo.

Anne58 Thu 12-Mar-15 19:43:01

I used to read his books aloud to DS2.

As well as the Discworld series, he wrote some excellent books for children. If you haven't come across them, please seek them out, as they seem to particularly please boys, and often gets them reading.

Truckers
Diggers
Wings
(3 books about a group of dwarves initially living in a department store)

Also "Johnny and the Bomb" and "Only you can save mankind"

A very talented write with a great mind and well honed sense of humour. He will be missed.

I do wonder whether he and his family refused treatment (antibiotics) for his chest infection- thus letting nature take its course- knowing that Alzheimers would be a much worse alternative?? Perhaps they will make a statement at a later stage.

“DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death. JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.”
