Airport rip off

Has anyone read the recent reports regarding airport shops? It appears that it is not (as I had thought) a legal requirement for boarding passes to be handed over and recorded when a purchase is made from the airport shops.

Apparently, when a customer is travelling outside of the EU, retailers can retain the 20% VAT instead of passing the saving on to the customer.

On the same day, the I reported that Pizza Express takes an eight per cent cut of their serving staff's tips, even though most of their staff are very low paid - many on minimum wage. This is apparently quite common in the chain restaurant business.

It seems like not a day goes by without there being some exposition about businesses that cheat their staff and their customers. It seems that the concept of fairness and honesty is an alien one to many commercial enterprises.
