So DC has failed to reach his target for immigration. If the government was a school it would probably be in special measures as failing. What should we do with this failing government?

whitewave Thu 27-Aug-15 18:38:09

Off with its headgrin

whitewave Thu 27-Aug-15 18:39:22

Oh perhaps that was a bit insensitive please ignore that very silly off the cuff remark -sorry

Luckygirl Thu 27-Aug-15 19:03:34

Special measures - what a great idea!

The promise to reduce immigration was not one that many people believed - or did they? - many voted for him!

Iam64 Thu 27-Aug-15 19:47:41

whitewave - it may be considered insensitive, but I'm still laughing [shame emoticon]

If he just changed the name to refugees, we would be pleased. Think what kudos he could get for that from the socialists. He'd probably have to change his party as well, though.

Thinking about it, wasn't his only other job in PR? I'm surprised he hasn't thought of it - a bit slow there.

I'd be surprised if that wasn't one of the main reasons people voted for him, Lucky.

I was just thinking that maybe we should have a new super-head rushed in, like they do with failing schools sometimes. (Boris perhaps???) O

Ana Thu 27-Aug-15 21:41:30

Ooh, yes please! smile

Anya Thu 27-Aug-15 21:52:16

it would have to be Gove surely?

trisher Thu 27-Aug-15 22:03:43

Oh what a choice- Gove or Boris? It's all too much....

The Anglo-EU agreement "Freedom of movement in employment", ensures
Eastern European immigrants can come here, and British immigrants to European country's can go live, work, and retire in Germany Spain, France ect.

Cameron cant win on immigration, unless the UK pulls out of Europe.

rosesarered Thu 27-Aug-15 23:09:39

Cameron's mistake is to promise things. He certainly cannot do much with the agreements now in place with the EU immigration rules.Whoever is PM, controlling immigration is a gargantuan task. No promises on numbers should be made, just a promise to get to grips with it.

whitewave Fri 28-Aug-15 06:47:47

He hasn't even done that though - got to grips with it. Immigration is run I g away from this government

thatbags Fri 28-Aug-15 08:35:49

Is a target a promise or is it just a target?

He probably doesn't call them refugees because he doesn't believe they all are refugees, so he could be accused of lying if he called them all that. #possible

rosesarered Fri 28-Aug-15 08:51:58

Immigration also 'ran away' from the last Labour Government, and has been running away from all Governments for ages now.

trisher Fri 28-Aug-15 08:55:03

"Cameron's mistake is to promise things" Well in that case he shouldn't bother with a manifesto at all.
Maybe we could all base our votes on who looks best, or wears the best suit????

rosesarered Fri 28-Aug-15 08:59:02

All politicians from all parties, sooner or later make the mistake of promising things and mentioning figures, which more often than not, come back to bite them on the bum.
Immigration has been happily spiralling away from all the political parties for yonks.

whitewave Fri 28-Aug-15 09:03:20

So that excuses the Tory government then?

rosesarered Fri 28-Aug-15 09:07:16

It explains rather than exuses, all Goverments. Nothing much to be done about EU immigration of course.

thatbags Fri 28-Aug-15 09:33:57

My post is not about making excuses. It's a dead pan straightforward look at political 'promises', targets, etc and the suggestion of a possible reason why Cameron doesn't use the word refugees of people he probably doesn't regard as refugees (at least not until proven so). One may not like his politics but the man isn't a complete idiot.

whitewave Fri 28-Aug-15 10:17:58

hmm

Questiontime Fri 28-Aug-15 10:48:02

Over 3 million British immigrants are living, working, and retired in other European countries, and its the Anglo-EU Agreement "Freedom of movement" of employment" which allows this.

Cameron is a right wing Tory in a Social Democracy called the European Union,he cannot pick and choose terms, because every country in Europe has to agree to those terms, and this just isnt going to happen.

Cameron is playing to the media, and he is fooling a none the wiser English populas who believe everything they hear on the BBC and read in the right wing tabloids.

durhamjen Fri 28-Aug-15 10:48:26

Only an idiot would have promised to get immigration figures down to tens of thousands, in my opinion.
Unfortunately there were a lot who believed him.
I know he wouldn't use the word refugees because he doesn't like them either. However, it's refugees who are the problem, not immigrants as such.

trisher Fri 28-Aug-15 15:01:11

"Only an idiot"-it's David Cameron dj that explains everything! So what can you call the people who believed him? (Only repeatable answers please)

whitewave Fri 28-Aug-15 15:05:41

Gullible?
