Child refugees

There is growing pressure on the government to do its bit to help the EU look after unaccompanied child refugees, currently in Greece, Calais, Macedonia and other locations.
Some of them have lost parents during their flight. Some have relatives in this country who would like to give them a home if David Cameron would allow them into the UK. All of them are at risk.
It is thought that large numbers are disappearing - possibly being abused and exploited.
Please see this article in The Guardian, written by a Tory MP - one of the ones who voted against the government on this issue, earlier this week.

Yvette Cooper and Alf Dubs are doing a sterling job keeping this issue live in Westminster. Yvette made a powerful speech - see link.

Deedaa Thu 28-Apr-16 21:14:27

I've signed.

durhamjen Thu 28-Apr-16 22:45:49

I wish there was a way to know that it's a petition that I've already signed.
That's three times today I've been told I've already signed a petition.
Not that it matters that much. I'd rather waste a minute doing that than not sign something I think is important.

lynnie1 Thu 28-Apr-16 23:50:05

Thanks Jess, I have signed it

Signed. This morning's Herald had an article by David Pratt, a very experienced foreign reporter, who has strong views on this subject. I was left feeling quite disgusted at the attitude of our government to these poor children, so I was delighted to sign the petition - thanks, Jess

Not far short of 60,000 signatures already, in just three days.

Hope everybody's passed it on to those with facebook.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 29-Apr-16 18:52:25

Come on grandmothers. hmm

Wheniwasyourage Fri 29-Apr-16 18:52:47

Good question, and one which I have asked myself!

Ana Fri 29-Apr-16 18:53:30

Didn't realise it was compulsory to post on the thread as well as sign the petition...hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 29-Apr-16 18:55:10

Usually with petitions on here we get the repeated 'signed', 'signed' 'signed'....

Ana Fri 29-Apr-16 18:57:11

I know. That's why I didn't.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 29-Apr-16 18:59:23

Wheniwasyourage Fri 29-Apr-16 19:00:48

It helps to keep it near the top of the list; I assumed that's why people did it.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 29-Apr-16 19:08:17

Yes. Shall we do it with this one? Please.

I heard this week we are the inky country in Europe who will not have have the children here, Cameron refuses but his reason for refusing is he knows it would be unpopular with the public, I believe this
