Only a few months and there will be a new PM, who?

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 08:29:41

God what a choice!!

Johnson?

Gove?

There is May I suppose

Any dark/stalking horses?

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 08:32:28

Shouldn't we have an election?

Jane10 Fri 24-Jun-16 08:36:15

No election -I've completely lost faith in the intelligence of 50.1% of the electorate.

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 08:36:29

May has played the game, hung around in the shadows , waiting her chance

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 08:38:10

A new PM doesn't mean a new government , Tories in power for next four years

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 08:40:05

What is frighten is the right of the Tory party supported Johnson and Gove, they will now vote for the new PM

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 08:42:15

No, not May. She supported Remain.

Let Gove, Johnson, IDS, etc have a go! Make them stick to their promises. They'll make such a might cock up while the economy nosedives that people might actually beg Labour to form a government.

Theresa May has been a very good HS, wonder if she would also make a good PM? Of those mentioned so far I reckon she would do a good job.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 08:44:51

@Jane10

I'm so angry with the idiot who allowed 1.1% (or whatever it was) to cause so much instability. If there was going to be a referendum, there should at least have beena 60 or 70% threshold.

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 08:50:11

I hope not May, expect Johnson or Gove will be elected , they both saud they don't want to be PM so we know they are already drumming up sopprters to vote for them

Teetime Fri 24-Jun-16 08:52:23

I'd rather have an election than another non-elected PM.

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 08:57:05

We will only have an election if the commons moves a no confidence vote in the new PM

suzied Fri 24-Jun-16 08:58:37

Theresa May would be better than Johnson or Gove, and be more unifying.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 09:00:03

Yes, I agree, but she might not want the job.

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 09:02:10

She wants the job, she played safe during the referendum campaign waiting for this chance

Jane10 Fri 24-Jun-16 09:03:59

Carney was very good. He seems sensible and serious as well as well informed. Shame we couldn't elect him. It was scary how serious he was. He's clearly fighting hard to try to stabilise the economy.

whitewave Fri 24-Jun-16 09:07:14

May won't get it. It will be a Brexiter

kittylester Fri 24-Jun-16 09:28:55

Wonder if there will be a leadership challenge to get rid of wishy washy Corbyn too. Remain might have won if he had been more assertive. [ducksbehindsofa]

LullyDully Fri 24-Jun-16 09:30:04

A bright backbencher please with new ideas and good credentials, not the usual suspects. Boris is a self publicist, Gove an ex dreadful Education Minister, May the personality of a shrimp...important to have charisma in these days of 24 hour news. IDS may be past his time.

Anniebach Fri 24-Jun-16 09:31:07

Assertive? do you mean he should have lied ? Or got on the racist band waggon

sunseeker Fri 24-Jun-16 09:50:11

Jacob Rees-Mogg would get my vote to take over the Conservative Party. Throughout the EU referendum campaign his arguments to leave have been measured and well thought out. In the debates I heard him take part in he never resorted to insults or shouting down anyone who disagreed with him, unlike some of those he was debating with. Instead he listened to their arguments and then responded quietly and politely but still with passion and conviction.

jinglbellsfrocks Fri 24-Jun-16 09:50:42

Corbyn probably. After an election. God help us.

daphnedill Fri 24-Jun-16 09:52:23

Jane10,

My son met Carney and the Deputy Governor, Ben Broadbent, a few weeks ago. They are both very professional (as one would hope) and know their stuff. They both know very well that we're in for a rocky ride and are doing their best to calm the markets, but they can't control the markets. £600bn is available to support the pound, but that will appear on the balance sheet as a debt for decades and will inevitably affect confidence in the UK. The Japanese have already advised de-investment and others will follow.

Who wants an honest PM with principles and doesn't seek out every tv camera
