We're crying into our meringues at HQ... Mary Berry is to leave Bake Off. sad

rosesarered Thu 22-Sep-16 10:18:44

I usually use a paper hanky Lara,rather than a meringue.grin
Mary Berry probably needs a rest from filming.

Apparently, Paul Hollywood is in 'secret' talks with Channel 4 which probably means the deal is already done and it will be called, 'Paul Hollywood's Bake-Off' hmm

rosesarered Thu 22-Sep-16 10:28:49

Or 'Hurrah for Hollywood'

Charleygirl Thu 22-Sep-16 10:33:41

As long as the other two females go I do not care

Indinana Thu 22-Sep-16 10:44:50

Well the other two females have already announced they're going - and yes, I agree with you Charleygirl, they were getting on my nerves so much that I haven't watched this series at all. But I don't know if the show can survive without Mary Berry, it just won't be the same at all.

Christinefrance Thu 22-Sep-16 11:16:19

Oh please save us from The Paul Hollywood show, doesn't bear thinking about. Off button here I come

Teetime Thu 22-Sep-16 11:22:42

Me too I don't fancy the PH Ego Show. I shall stick with Mary's old programmes.

Hilltopgran Thu 22-Sep-16 13:31:38

I hope the BBC let Channel 4 broadcast next year, apparently they have a clause to prevent rival showing for 12 months. I am not sorry to see the two presenters go, and Mary at 81 would have to retire at some point, she is great but can not go on for ever.

I do not mind a change in judges or presenters, it is the contestants and format that make the show, but am pleased Paul I'd staying to provide some continuity.

Jane10 Thu 22-Sep-16 13:41:15

I'd read that the whole 'Bake off' format was Mel and Sue's idea. They're OK. The whole thing works so well in its current form that I reckon Ch4 will have some sort of baking competition but it wont be the 'Bake off' that we all know and love.
I've never like Paul after he was on ''Who do you think you are". He came off as self obsessed and made fun of his poor Mum. Good riddance!

kittylester Thu 22-Sep-16 14:42:15

I agree without Jane, it's getting worse by the second. I heard someone suggest that St Delia would be a good replacement for Mary.

Caretaker Thu 22-Sep-16 16:33:17

Mary Berry is minted she can afford to walk away. Paul has a lot of outgoings so needs the dosh.

tanith Thu 22-Sep-16 16:43:42

Paul it seems has signed for 3 yrs I won't be watching.

Jane10 Thu 22-Sep-16 16:57:17

BBC offered him Top Gear if he'd stay!
I don't think he'd be hard up for offers of employment.

merlotgran Thu 22-Sep-16 17:59:59

The BBC offered PH Top Gear???

Can he drive??

NotTooOld Thu 22-Sep-16 18:05:51

merlotgran - he-he. grin

Teetime Fri 23-Sep-16 09:48:25

Apparently BBC launching new programme with Mary and the two 'girls' and James Martin!

Harris27 Fri 23-Sep-16 11:02:27

I hope teetime is right love Mary so easy to watch not patronising has moved with the times and James Martin would be ideal!!! Fingers crossed!!!

Daisygirl Fri 23-Sep-16 12:06:54

I agree with Harris27 - I like the sound of that. Fingers also crossed.
