For those who haven't read this. Angela Gibbins is a manager with the British Council whose job it is to promote the UK abroad. She has posted on her Facebook page that she thinks Prince George is a f*****g d******d. Now I don't have a problem with her expressing her views as a socialist, atheist and republican but to launch such a vitriolic attack on a 3 year old boy is, I think, unacceptable. He may be privileged but that is hardly his fault

whitewave Tue 26-Jul-16 11:46:36

Good heavens! Time to review her contract I would have thought.

sunseeker Tue 26-Jul-16 11:48:56

or at least a course on using social media!

LullyDully Tue 26-Jul-16 12:28:02

Stupid woman must have been drinking. I wouldn't think she has helped UK abroad. The vote was to leave the EU not to become a republic. I think she may be out of a job.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 26-Jul-16 12:36:15

Actually she didn't say that.

Someone else posted the photo with that caption on a private social media account. Angela Gibbons responded to the photo by saying

"White privilege. That cheeky grin is the innate knowledge he's royal, rich, advantages and will never know any difficulties or hardships in life. Let’s find photos of 3yo Syrian refugee children and see if they look alike, eh?”

She backed up her comments by saying

"I'm sound in my socialist, atheist and republican opinions. I don’t believe the royal family have any place in a modern democracy, least of all when they live on public money. That’s privilege and it needs to end.”

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.

sunseeker Tue 26-Jul-16 12:37:50

She also complained about the family being funded by tax payers, yet her own job (£80,000) is tax payer funded. I had never heard of her before this and would like to know what, if any, success she has had. Whether you agree with the royal family or not I see no excuse for making such comments about a small child.

Jane10 Tue 26-Jul-16 12:38:14

In her position that is unprofessional, unpleasant and bottom line just plain stupid.

hildajenniJ Tue 26-Jul-16 12:54:18

What a thoroughly repellent person she is! The poor little Prince can't help his birth or position. He's our future King. I know Ms Gibbins is a republican, and I'm a staunch Royalist, but really!

Penstemmon Tue 26-Jul-16 13:52:31

She was stating a republican point of view. In our society, at the moment, we are allowed to express opinions freely unless they break the law. Her £80k salary is probably comparable to others in similar positions. The fact that it is funded via a government agency is neither here nor there. Teachers/nurses/doctors/etc etc all via public purse bet do not have to follow the opinions of any specific doctrine/philosophy and are not banned from expressing a point of view.

Also George is not going to know any of this.. and Hilda is certainly not a 'poor little prince'... far from it!

Also as has been pointed out she did not say anything derogatory about the child.

M0nica Tue 26-Jul-16 14:33:24

Silly girl. Time she grew up.

Badenkate Tue 26-Jul-16 16:13:34

I fail to see how That cheeky grin of a 3 year old is the innate knowledge he's royal, rich, advantages and will never know any difficulties or hardships in life. It just looks like a typical 3 year old enjoying having fun with his dog to me. Of course, people read whatever they want into pictures or words in this as in other situations.

nanaK54 Tue 26-Jul-16 16:26:17

Ridiculous woman, ridiculous statements

Badenkate Tue 26-Jul-16 17:27:10

I hope that was directed at Angela Gibbins and not me nannaK54 confused

Luckylegs9 Tue 26-Jul-16 17:31:26

What a dreadful woman, her mouth needs washing out for a start. You have to wonder who recruits these people. How dare she speak of any innocent child like that. Penstemon, yes we do have free speech, but we should not tolerate her bullying, foul mouthed voicing of it. A truly repellent person once you use language like that you have already lost the argument.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 26-Jul-16 17:46:46

THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE OP IS INCORRECT.

Please read my post at 12.36.

Maggiemaybe Tue 26-Jul-16 18:07:16

But if she'd had any sense, in her position as, well, a sort of property developer for one of our privileged society's most privileged organisations, she'd know how to act with a bit of discretion.

She comes to this position via Goldsmiths and Cambridge, so hardly lacking in a bit of white privilege herself.

And though the original comments didn't come from her, would most decent people think it appropriate to add a supportive comment to such indefensible remarks about a two year old child?

daphnedill Tue 26-Jul-16 18:24:08

Goldsmiths and Cambridge hardly put her in the same privileged league as Prince George.

whitewave Tue 26-Jul-16 18:29:43

Just read wilmas first post - I would like my first post considered to have been deleted. I objected to the language but not necessarily the sentiment.

sunseeker Tue 26-Jul-16 18:39:48

It was reported in several newspapers that she said this - if this is incorrect I apologise (I did try to look up her Facebook page but couldn't find it). However, I do still think aiming a comment about privilege at a child is out of order.

Bellanonna Tue 26-Jul-16 18:41:29

Just appalling

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 26-Jul-16 18:41:54

I don't know Angela Gibbins, but I do support her right to voice her opinion. She did not say anything negative about Prince George. Someone must dislike her a lot to report her comments which were made on a private Facebook account. I suspect she might lose her job over this and I think that would be wrong.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 26-Jul-16 18:43:57

sunseeker the photo and offensive comment were not on her Facebook account. The account belong to someone else and she made her comments there.

Penstemmon Tue 26-Jul-16 18:54:00

Oh dear! Once again over-reaction to what turns out to be a badly reported media story. AG is correct The child is white and privileged and a member of a royal dynasty which we all know has a very mixed history, including recently. Republicans would not support any member of the royal family though nobody is suggesting physical harm.
Of course he will not 'know' his advantages as he is too young to understand that yet so she was not correct there though he will soon.
I suspect it is simply a bit of Anti-British Council reporting.
The hysterical responses to the provocative press headlines are quite amazing! Do the people who post really think that the royal family care a hoot that Mrs Bloggs thinks Little George is lovely and that wicked lady ought to be shot at dawn??

Maggiemaybe Tue 26-Jul-16 18:54:19

True. But if this sort of comment - f*****g d******d - about any two year old popped up on my Facebook account, my immediate reaction would be to unfriend the friend who'd posted it, not to add a supportive comment.

I didn't say Goldsmiths and Cambridge put her in the same privileged league as Prince George, daphne. Few are. To a Syrian refugee though, they might be indicative of the white privilege she denounces.

Penstemmon Tue 26-Jul-16 18:55:14

I mean the responses on newspaper threads not on here before anyone gets cross!
