And why war is such a terrible thing.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 19-Sep-16 22:05:38

Of course there are no easy answers.

Now an aid convoy.

durhamjen Mon 19-Sep-16 23:43:21

Bloody hell, a UK drone. I thought their missiles were only to be used for very well targeted missions when they knew who they were killing.
Just shows what a load of bull.... that was.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 20-Sep-16 18:15:23

A"war crime". And who will they prosecute for that?

nigglynellie Wed 21-Sep-16 12:00:49

The Russians/Syrians?!!! According to Russia the convey was attacked and destroyed by the small armoured vehicle accompanying the long line of bulk carriers transporting aid!!!! Well, 'if you say so'!!! Impossible is a word that comes to mind!!!! Another version is that the convey was attacked in retaliation of America's/Britain's mistaken attack on Syrian troops! Whatever the truth of the matter, Russian misinformation is a theory, nothing can justify attacking food aid for starving people. Putin just laughs at us, runs rings round us, and there is damn all we can do about it and he knows it!! (despair)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 21-Sep-16 13:11:51

Good luck with getting Putin or Assad in the dock.

What evil men they are.

The TV coverage of children in Yemen makes me despair.

nigglynellie Wed 21-Sep-16 14:55:58

Heavens yes, it was just shocking. I remember Biafra many many years ago when my now,51 year old son was a baby and how it shocked and upset me beyond belief. Now, watching yet another repeat of the same ghastly saga, I just feel complete despair.

We sell planes and weapons to Saudi Arabia, which are used in Yemen.
If we didn't sell them.....

GillT57 Wed 21-Sep-16 19:31:13

I know it is not that simple but, just announced by Pritti Patel that Britain is going to increase the aid budget to Yemen by £37m to around £100m. To counteract the effects of the arms that we are selling the Saudis. What a twisted and wicked state of affairs.

durhamjen Wed 21-Sep-16 21:44:46

Blood money, Eh?

grannyactivist Wed 21-Sep-16 23:38:15

More information here: www.caat.org.uk/get-involved/act-now/petition/stop-arming-saudi about the UK government's supply of arms to Saudi Arabia (and an opportunity to add your name to a petition if you want to register your opposition to the arms sales).

durhamjen Thu 22-Sep-16 17:16:06

Have done, grannyactivist.

durhamjen Thu 22-Sep-16 17:32:27

Did you know there is also something to sign to ask your MP to sign up to an EDM to stop arms sales to Saudi?

Anyone on facebook, this is a direct appeal from the Syria Campaign.
There is a weekend of action to try and save Aleppo.
Do what you can.

I really don't want £8 billion of our exports to be in the form of weapons. Surely we can do better than this?

48 hours left to recommend it if you want to.

If the government don't stop selling arms to Saudi after today's atrocity in Yemen, I don't know what will stop them.

An Oxfam petition to Boris about Yemen.

updates.oxfam.org.uk/c/1TI3j6l9fZM5lwQh1gbrp44G8

The Yemen/Saudi problem was on PMQs today. May was asked to stop selling arms to Saudi. As usual she answered her own different question.

durhamjen Wed 26-Oct-16 14:24:37

Can anyone really jusify May's stance on Saudi Arabia?

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-saudi-arabia-yemen-un-human-rights-council-pmqs-jeremy-corbyn-a7381166.html

Why should Saudi Arabia have a place on the Human Rights Council when it is so obviously violating the rules?

durhamjen Thu 27-Oct-16 22:34:51

This is appalling. There was a debate to condemn the government for selling arms to Saudi Arabia. The government won the debate by 90 votes. 98 Labour MPs did not vote.

skwawkbox.org/2016/10/27/labour-moderates-shame-on-saudi-arms-sales-vote/

I feel quite ashamed of them.

If I was a worker in a 'munitions factory I certainly would not agree with your comments, GET REAL

trisher Fri 28-Oct-16 11:00:26

I am really disappointed in the labour MPs who did not vote. My MP was absent I will certainly be contacting her to ask why she did not attend and vote.
