Save the Children refers to "the EU’s shameful policy of leaving children to drown in the Mediterranean Sea." This is simply not true: children being drowned may be a dreadful consequence of the EU's policy decisions, but it is not EU policy. StC does itself no favours by using this sort of language.

I was dismayed to learn that some children were being placed on these boats without their parents.

GrannyTwice Mon 20-Apr-15 10:16:10

But harrigan, isn't that because their parents want to give them the chance of a better life? Like, in a different context, the Kinder Transport or even our evacuee programme during the Second World War? I don't mean it's the same but what is the same is probably a parental love and fear that drives them to make this terrible choice

How can you ever give youth back to young people who have witnessed multiple beheadings?

This is interesting. Italy trying to support adolescent survivors

So very sad jingle. Although the young man quoted towards the end was remarkably optomistic.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 21-Apr-15 11:56:08

Yes, he does dustyangel. And it's probably unwarranted. When we were in Rome a week or two back, as you came out of the entrance to the Forum area, there was a whole line of young African lads selling selfie sticks. The police method of getting rid of them was to drive their police car straight at them and hope they would disperse in time! Unbelievable.
