We are planning to go on our first ever cruise next year and Alaska is our choice. Could I have views on what you enjoyed most - the land bit or the sea journey? Should we choose a smaller boat such as Oceania offer or go on a larger one - Holland America or even Princess? Which month? We are getting more and more confused as time goes on!

We went with Riviera travel last year . Cross land partly on the Rocky mountain express. Then Holland America for the cruise. Enjoyed every minute. Message me if you would like to know more.

Thanks Ginny. Which month did you go? Did you spend time on land in Alaska or did you speak to anyone who did?

We are getting conflicting advice from friends.

We went in September. The weather was changeable. From T-shirt days to wrapped in coats, scarves etc. We even had snow in Banff.

If you are cruising the will be days in port in Alaska. We stopped at three different towns. The day we were on board in Glacier Bay was fantastic.

Can't say which we enjoyed most as the two parts were very different.

We went with Holland America spent three days in Rockies cruise to Alaska then four days in Vancouver before coming home worked out really well.

Thanks both of you for your comments. We will be adding them to the mix!
