Gransnet is supporting One Billion Rising, a global movement protesting against violence against women. (Thank you to those gransnetters who called on us to do this!)

In this country, the campaign has been led by Stella Creasy, MP for Walthamstow. We're delighted that she's agreed to come in for a live webchat on Wednesday to talk about the issue - the one billion women who will be raped or beaten in their lifetime - and what a billion of us can do to protest on Thursday.

Stella is a rising star of the Labour Party and the shadow minister with responsibility for violence against women. She recently ran a highly successful campaign against payday loans.

Stella, thanks for promoting One Billion Rising. Will you be able to raise this momentous campaign in the Hose of Commons, and do you know how far the media are going to publicise the events on 14 February?

gran4 Fri 08-Feb-13 17:12:11

Definitely supporting this campaign. If everyone puts it on Facebook, twitter etc. there will be 1billion rising!

DavidH22 Mon 11-Feb-13 10:12:17

Following the very sad case of Frances Andrade what ideas has the Labour Party got to try to lessen the trauma of rape victims giving evidence in court? Could they give their evidence via a video link and still be cross examined for instance?

Marthamuffin Tue 12-Feb-13 16:13:14

Hi Stella - I wondered how you got involved in this important campaign?

getmehrt Tue 12-Feb-13 16:32:41

The Woman's Hour Power List this week has been criticised for being rather predictable and class-based - for not including, for example, the women who came forward over Jimmy Savile. Do you think these lists do women any favours?

crosspatch Tue 12-Feb-13 16:34:15

Have we actually got to dance tomorrow? I am fully in support of this cause but dancing is not my thing. How else can I make my feelings known?

iMac Tue 12-Feb-13 16:36:15

Hi Stella. You're quite active on Twitter - do you ever get worried about being targeted by internet trolls like what happened to Louise Mensch, Mary Beard etc?

sofasogood Tue 12-Feb-13 16:43:10

Following on from crosspatch's comment, it seems to me that One Billion Rising is a fantastic movement but one without a very clear call to action. Do you think there's a need for something concrete that ordinary people can do?

Hi Stella, very pleased to see you on Gransnet. You're on twitter a lot. I wanted to ask whether twitter is now necessary for politicians - and do you do all your own tweets?

Hi Stella,

Where has your campaign against legal loan sharks got to? I saw Wonga advertising last night during the football on television. Is parliament going to be able to do anything to control the activities of these companies?

flibbertigibbet Wed 13-Feb-13 09:28:42

You once described parliament as Hogwarts gone wrong. What would you change to bring it into the 21st century?

granIT Wed 13-Feb-13 09:33:51

You famously wrote the sleeve notes for an album by Seamasters (The Seamasters?blush) Can you tell us why we should listen to them? And what band should we be listening to now? <tries to be cool>

Hi Stella,

Big admirer of your work on payday loans and interested to hear more about One Billion Rising today. It seems remiss that nobody has asked about your favourite biscuit so here goes:

What's your favourite biscuit? smile

I see that one of the aims of One Billion Rising is to get sex and relationship education included on the school curriculum. But isn't this already covered by PHSE?

goodenoughgran Wed 13-Feb-13 11:16:29

Politics increasingly shades over into celebrity. To some extent you have to play the game to get your points across - but does it trouble you?

gillybob Wed 13-Feb-13 11:34:53

Good Morning Stella

I live in the North East of England and would like to ask you what you think about Newcastle United being sponsored to the tune of around £8 million per year by Wonga ? Effectively loan sharks paying the hugely inflated wages of the footballers.

Thanks.

whenim64 Wed 13-Feb-13 11:36:52

Is anybody there? ..............

gillybob Wed 13-Feb-13 11:37:45

I was wondering the same thing when ????
