Pillows

I am extremely fussy about my pillows, the two I have are getting on a bit and need to be binned. I have had a look at M & S pillows, and read the reviews, most of which are non too good. Also had a look at the John Lewis ones as well. I do prefer feathers/down etc, but there are so many to chose from. Prices vary as well, from £20 upto £150. Any suggestions?

Hi Hattie.....my lovely feather pillow came from Ikea. I bought it because they have different amounts of filling to choose from and I like a very fluffy but supportive pillow. I've had it a couple of years now and it is still like new. Can't remember how much I paid but it wasn't expensive for a feather pillow. Hope you find what you're looking for....smile

I love my memory foam pillow from John Lewis - have had it for some time now and still good. It was £30 and got rid of my morning neck achesmile

I use Dunlopillo latex pillows. They always retain their shape and never need plumping..Good neck support too.

Are the memory foam pillows quite hard? I do rather like something soft, and not really too firm.

I have not tried memory foam in pillows, but in my mattress topper it is wonderful! I used to wake early with sore hips, and could never lie in because it was too uncomfortable on my medium support mattress. Not that I lie in these days either, but I have a lovely layer to sink into without losing the support, which is bliss! smile

Anybody using a Chillow? I'd be interested to hear what they think about it?

Shysal, I love latex pillows too. I even put mine in my suitcase and take it with me when I visit my children. I can't sleep without it, they really do support my neck.

The pillow I use when I'm lying on my back is feather-filled so that my head can sink into it. In effect, it's very shallow when my head is on it. The pillow I use when I'm lying on my side is filled with wool and is firmer so that my spine stays straight at the neck. The wool is rolled (by machine) into very small balls and because it's easy to handle and the pillow has a zip, you can adjust the filling to your exact requirements.

I always loved a soft malleable pillow until I tried an Ikea ergonomic memory foam type pillow, and now wouldn't change it for the world. My neck is no longer uncomfortable in the morning and I am sleeping so much better. Never thought I would change but am a real born again ergonomic pillow convert!!!

memory foam ...pillows/mattress toppers ... do they retain heat/moisture when it is hot?
I need to replace my pillows ...and can't use feathers/down due to allergies ...so had been wondering about memory foam, but concerned about heat retention?

I swear by my memory foam pillow! You think it's going to feel like a brick but it is so comfortable.

nanapug Thu 29-Sept-11 20:15:14

I agree Ariadne. Is yours a contoured one, or an normal pillow shape? Mine is contoured, and as you say you would think it would be uncomfortable but it isn't. My DH however doesn't like them at all.

greenmossgiel Thu 29-Sept-11 20:23:51

Mine is 'memory foam' and contoured. It's really comfortable, holding my neck and head in a good position all night. I think I bought mine from Argos (?) Wasn't cheap but well worth it.

We have a memory foam mattress and pillows and sleep really well and agree that there are fewer aches and pains in the morning. To coin a family saying "they cost more money but are worth it!!"

I've gone for an Ikea memory foam one too. It took some getting used to because its quite firm but its helped with the neck a lot. Over the years I've gone from sleeping on side to sleeping on back because its better for my back. This pillow is designed for back sleepers and certainly seems to work for me.

I can't get used to my Ikea Memory foam pillow. I bought some ''summer pillows'' by Forgarty from Debenhams which are lovely but have Dunlopillo latex underneath.
TK Maxx is always worth trying for pillows/duvets etc. A few weeks ago there was an amazing Memory pillow (£24 instead of £75) but I couldn't afford it at the time.
I bought my 13.5 tog pure silk filled duvet from there for £55 and it retails at over £300. It is fabulous !!!

Wow grumpy that is an amazing bargain. Must confess to being a little envious of a silk filled duvet. Love TK Maxx. My daughter got a large box of baby bottles that were too expensive to justify buying from a "normal" shop, at a ridiculous price. We did laugh though, because there were about four boxes with odd thing missing. The stupid thing was that if they had combined the boxes they would have had three complete sets that could have been sold at full price. We were not complaining though....

Have reported that post.

Has anyone come across Slumberdown anti snoring pillows -do they work? I thought I might sneak one in when someone very close to me is away.

I echo Jacey's concern re heat! I get so hot at night sometimes that am hunting a cool comfy pillow!

Anne58 Thu 21-Jun-12 21:40:14

Jenjax on another forum of which I was a member, a similarly menopausal old bat (like me) who lived in Spain swore by her chillow!

I too am in the market for new pillows, but would just like to put a word in for M&S Coolmax bedlinen.(For those who are looking for something that might go some way to helping with the flushes!)

I was a bit sceptical, as it is a poly cotton mix, but so far both Mr P and I are very impressed with it. (fitted sheet and pillow cases tried so far.)

I swear by Dunlopillo. My new ones were £50 each. I tried various memory foam ones when my previous Dunlopillo ones finally died, but didn't take to any of them.

I have a memory foam pillow which is so good for my aches and pains. I certainly sleep better with it. When I visit DS and MIL I sleep on their lovely memory foam mattress - would love to be able to buy one but they are sooo expensive. The only down side is that they make you sweat in the warmer weather. I am beyond the flushes - in fact never had them - a friend has told me that she found the same with her memory foam mattress and pillow.
