Wide leg, slim leg, tapered leg, boot leg. I get all of those. But peg leg trousers???? For heaven's sake, M&S what on earth are you on about now?

hildajenniJ Sat 23-Apr-16 14:01:16

What is the difference between these peg leg trousers and tapered leg trousers? From the pictures, it's very difficult to tell. confused

grin

Alea Sat 23-Apr-16 14:31:11

Clearly like "Jake the Peg" they come with "an extra leg"!

NanaandGrampy Sat 23-Apr-16 14:32:31

Are they for pirates perhaps wink ⚓️

rosesarered Sat 23-Apr-16 14:35:13

Yup, it's the cut off pirate look, short so they could scrub the decks and not get their peg leg twisted up in the material ( or something.)

rosesarered Sat 23-Apr-16 14:36:13

These trousers are meant to be worn with: stripey tops, gold hoop ear rings and a patch over one eye, matey.

whitewave Sat 23-Apr-16 14:37:38

That's my summer look sorted then.

grannylyn65 Sat 23-Apr-16 15:00:14

I was going to say Alex Brooker and Adam Hills but thought it may be in poor taste. Then my finger accidentally pressed post blush

rosesarered Sat 23-Apr-16 15:10:00

Oh yes, those accidental pressings! grin

Indinana Sat 23-Apr-16 16:37:20

Alea yes, I was looking for the extra leg too grin

Yup, it's the cut off pirate look, short so they could scrub the decks and not get their peg leg twisted up in the material ( or something.)
In that case I'm definitely not buying any - I might be expected to start scrubbing the floor shock

I was looking for some soft Tencel trousers in M&S yesterday - thank goodness I didn't notice these!

Peg legs are definitely OUT - for obvious reasons.

Jalima Sat 23-Apr-16 16:55:45

I didn't realise that Tencel came from sustainable Eucalyptus trees

Do they come with their own pet Koala?

Pittcity Sat 23-Apr-16 17:02:43

They look very 80s to me and most sizes are sold out!!
Maybe they hang themselves out to dry?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 17:41:50

I like 'em. Might get some. Good on a bike. Trouser bottoms won't catch on pedals. And I look a bit less dumpy in slim leg trousers.

Indinana Sat 23-Apr-16 17:54:34

I like them too jings - it's the name that I don't understand. The leg shape looks no different to a tapered leg trouser as far as I can see, so what's with the peg leg moniker? confused

Indinana Sat 23-Apr-16 17:54:45

I think I might write and ask them.....

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 18:07:57

Apparently they have also been called 'carrot leg'. Think of the shape of a carrot. Now think of the shape of the old fashioned dolly pegs.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 18:13:00

Maybe?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 18:14:07

They are full round the waist. Then tapering....

Ana Sat 23-Apr-16 18:21:06

And don't forget the model in the photo is 5'9" and a size 8. I don't think these trousers are going to look at all good on anyone with a big bum!

Deedaa Sat 23-Apr-16 21:23:25

I can cope with peg leg trousers (not that I'd actually wear them) but last time I was in Marks I found Girlfriend Jeans! I sort of get Boyfriend Jeans, but Girlfriend? They'd just be normal women's jeans wouldn't they? Also they had so many trendy rips and tears in them they might as well be made of netting.

Luckylegs9 Sat 23-Apr-16 21:46:11

There are so many styles of jeans now, why can't I get any to fit? I find any style that fits me on the hips have enormous waists, they fall down if I don't have a belt on, but I do not like wearing belts.

Welshwife Sat 23-Apr-16 22:47:41

Some of their descriptions are not what I would call accurate. I have a couple of pairs of trousers which say they are slim leg but I would call them more like a straight leg - I wanted a pair a bit wider than jeggings that I could wear with shoes rather than boots and not quite as close fitting as the jeggings .

Lona Sat 23-Apr-16 22:55:50

I seem to remember that peg top trousers had loose pleated tops instead of darts, which seems to be the same as the link above.
So, as you were, all those of you with wooden legs! grin
