What's the one beauty product you swear by?

Since reading the thread on decluttering I've been inspired and am clearing out all the little trial beauty products and other gunk I have accumulated over the years (probably a lot of it out of date!). Got me thinking about what I actually use and which products I wouldn't be without. What's the one thing you swear by? Mine is my lipstick (although tbh it probably counts as two because I mix two colours). If I'm feeling drab it's the one thing that perks me up and makes me feel 'done' and ready to face the day.

Mascara !
I don't wear it every day but I won't even pop to the shop without applying mascara

Oh, woe is me. I'm allergic to most make up products. The one essential that I couldn't do without is good moisturiser.

Yes, mascara for me too! I've tried dying them, but it's never as effective.

Good eyebrow pencils/powder as a neat eyebrow is an essential and makes a difference.

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish gets all make up off and leaves your face clean but soft and hydrated. Not too expensive either.

My allergen-free moisturiser. Then eyebrow pencil and blusher, but first and foremost my moisturiser. I have very dry skin, cannot use soap on it because it goes red and tight and cracks and cannot use mainstream 'allergen-free' moisturisers, because they all seem to contain something I am allergic to.

Photography Fluid by niod. You whack it on under your foundation and it does something clever with the light so you look blooming marvellous in photos. When I saw some photos of myself at a recent wedding I was really quite taken aback at how much brighter my skin looked (even if I do say so myself!! grin )

I only wear moisturiser now. Could never get on with foundation or lipstick. I stopped making up my eyes when I developed "dry eyes" and need to apply drops when they are troublesome.

My husband spends more on beauty products than I do!
I use moisturiser daily and a bit of lippy occasionally.

Steamcream. It is a moisturiser that can be used on hands, face and body that is made from essential oils. I find it really brightens my skin - and the little tins it is sold in are great for storing things afterwards.

1. Pixi Glowtonic - makes a huge difference!
2. Benefit mascara (They're Real tinted primer is totally brilliant for making lashes visible without a heavy mascara look)
3. Sheumura eyelash curlers - the best!
4. Lippy - Bobbi Brown soft and lasts / ByTerri fantastic / as is Sisley and worth the money. Also doubles as blusher.

Well oddly enough, Vaseline ! Ages ago I saw a skin specialist being interviewed on TV, and the presenter asked him what his wife used on her skin... he said, she uses the very best... and that's Vaseline.

I use it for everything.. at night on my very dry skin.... on my Hobbit like feet... on my cuticles... eyelashes. You name it.

Nivea Soft - this lovely cream is for all over the body, and I slap it on arms and legs, face, neck and hands after showering, and on my feet before I put socks on. It is lightly scented, fresh smelling, and a little more economical (!) than Creme de la Mer at £6 a tub.

Eyeliner

Me too hildajenniJ, have problems trying to put anything near my eyes so just moisturiser for me.

seacliff Thu 29-Sep-16 11:52:21

I used to love Cleanse and Polish, but can't afford it now.

I have found Superdrug similar - www.superdrug.com/Skincare/Superdrug-Naturally-Radiant-Hot-Cloth-Cleanser-150ml/p/516251. I really like it, and it's much cheaper.

I also love the Eye Brightening cream in same range, works for me, and under £3.

Has to be Mascara as my lashes are invisible without it although I don't wear it unless I am going (popping to local shop doesn't count) out & then will add lipstick or tinted lip balm. smile

Can't wear any type of foundation - skin erupts. sad

Eyeshadow - rarely

Nivea for most of my needs, cleanser (face & eyes) & moisturiser.

I've got very sensitive skin so don't experiment normally No7 for all my cosmetic needs grin

Humbertbear Thu 29-Sep-16 12:52:19

No 7 moisturisers and powder, L'Oréal foundation , Charlotte Tilsbury eye shadow pencils.
Used to use everything Clinique but retirement doesn't run to it.

jackiekiel Thu 29-Sep-16 13:27:23

Aloe Vera gel from health food shops is a good all over moisturiser that disappears into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. And it's very cheap!
My hair is pure white but to give it some warmth and achieve a soft honey colour I use John Frieda's Glaze in a dark brown colour. I leave it on for about five minutes, then rinse it off. I think it's been taken off the market now but I managed to find some online. Can't think what I'm going to do when that's finished.

LouLou21 Thu 29-Sep-16 13:48:59

No matter which mascara I use it always clumps and makes me look as if I have spidery lashes. Also it runs on my glasses!

shysal Thu 29-Sep-16 13:53:59

I learnt about tube mascara on a Gransnet thread. It is great! Stays put with no panda eyes, until soaked with water for removal. It survived a trip to the eye hospital with application of dilation drops when I forget to remove it.
I think mascara makes the most difference to my appearance.

Sleep!

I can't think of anything I couldn't manage without, but I am constantly reaching for the tweezers. As soon as I feel a whisker growing I have to get at it or I will start trying to pull it out with my fingers (daft!) and it goes red and sore and forms a spot.

A moisuriser with sunscreen is a must every morning, usually Simple. Superdrug spray on moisturiser for the rest of me. Gives a fine spray and works when can is held at any angle so great for back of legs and back of shoulders. Only wear make-up when I go somewhere special.
