Is it possible to have a "like button " or similar on the comments that are posted on the forums. I often see comments I agree with and it would be a good way of showing it

Oh and no, I don't think we need a like button it will kill conversation.

harrigran Thu 30-Jun-11 23:18:00

Evening all, funnily enough I have just made a cup of organic white tea so I will sit and enjoy it while I read brew

I love virtual shortbread - don't need to declare it in my Weightwatchers record!
Yum. grin

Just testing Tech

Tech (GNHQ) Thu 30-Jun-11 19:01:07

Sorry folks, brew should be OK now.

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 30-Jun-11 18:56:18

Oh no! So sorry it doesn't work...will get Tech onto it immediately!

Don't get drunk in the mean time...tea is brewing.

Annika Thu 30-Jun-11 18:56:12

Yes I can see that a like button would discourage any comments posted on here so not such a good idea in the long run. I guess I will just have to have a [brew] or if that didnt work then it will have to be wine smile

pompa Thu 30-Jun-11 18:27:44

Good idea wine

twizzle Thu 30-Jun-11 18:26:37

Perhaps we need to let it 'brew' for a while.
While we are waiting we can have a wine
smile

greenmossgiel Thu 30-Jun-11 18:20:30

No...it didn't work....!

greenmossgiel Thu 30-Jun-11 18:19:10

I'm off to make a [brew] to see if it works...! smile

pompa Thu 30-Jun-11 18:11:08

sad but it doesn't work !!!

pompa Thu 30-Jun-11 18:10:22

Just noticed we now have a [brew] smiley, thanks Gransnet.

I think "like" buttons are a lazy option. And boring.

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 30-Jun-11 17:15:48

Sorry, I realise this has come up before. We've thought long and hard about it and tried to draw on the Mumsnet experience. The main reasons we're not so keen (we don't like likes!) are that having a like button doesn't encourage conversation, that it can lead to hierarchies, with people competing for likes, and that it encourages cliqueyness (I'll like you if you like me). Now, we realise that gransnetters aren't like that with their liking (OK, OK, enough liking) and that sometimes people just want to signal appreciation, but our starting point is always what makes this as open and democratic, free-form and dynamic a forum as it can possibly be?

Tell us if we're wrong. Well, you will, obviously. Equally, tell us if you like.

pompa Thu 30-Jun-11 14:45:36

There are already several requests in favour of a [like] button on this thread :- www.gransnet.com/forums/tech_stuff/1188651-New-smilies-please

twizzle Thu 30-Jun-11 14:36:25
