Are we elderly or middleaged.

At 67 years old with 2 grandchildren I consider myself middleaged. I still work 2 afternoons a week and lead a healthy busy life. I have a lot more energy then people younger then me. My son and his wife say I'm elderly and treat me as if I'm a doddering old fool. I've learned a lot of new skills since I turned 60, travel solo on buses and trains. Yet if I go out with them, they almost instruct me onto how to put one foot in front of another. I almost feel as as if I don't count for much .My daughter however, doesn't treat me like this at all thank goodness and finds their actions really annoying.

Maybe we should have a special section for "Action" - real rather than the broomstick type, and it might be easier for us to see what is going on. I certainly didn't look at that thread for a fair while because I hadn't realised it had changed to one asking for the rest of us to be involved. I missed out on all the great poetry because I don't 'do' poetry but, unless I am taking it easy after a traumatic experience, I don't have time to read everything. If you don't know about my terrible trauma you are looking at the wrong threads. smile

Definitely Witney Spears house! She'll have a fire going. grin

bagitha Fri 03-Feb-12 17:52:31

Likewise, jess. I did put a wink (way back with the elderliness reference)! smile Just for the record, my Oxfordshire MP (Evan Harris) tried to get me to join his party because he got so many letters from me, and the current administration of the local council where I now am, our MP, and our MSP are very familiar with my name. I am currently involved with one of the groups working with the Scottish Commission on Rural Schools. Sorry for the knee jerk reaction, but perhaps that explains (if not excuses) it. Cheers wine.

JessM, I don't think that the fact that few of us have confirmed that we have sent a copy of Carol's letter to our MPs means that few of us have actually done it. However, I also have a suspicion that because 'cut out of our lives' doesn't apply to most of us, some grans don't think it is their business. But it is our business. We support each other, don't we?

Jacey Fri 03-Feb-12 17:44:19

Thanx to Carol ...on another thread ...I come here ...obviously lateconfused

So why am I joining you all on a march? tonight? where? hmm

jeni Fri 03-Feb-12 17:41:37

Now ladies, kiss and make up! Virtually that is?
See you all at 7.
Where are we meeting now? Downing street or at Whitney spears house?
I'm confused? confused

JessM Fri 03-Feb-12 17:12:18

I know I have often disagreed with you on various threads bagitha but I don't think I have ever typed anything that could be described as getting at you personally. Certainly not done so intentionally. If I have, I am truly sorry.

whatisamashedupphrase Fri 03-Feb-12 16:48:17

Jess you are doing a good job on the other thread.

Good on you.

whatisamashedupphrase Fri 03-Feb-12 16:47:13

Go Carol!!!!!!!!!

bagitha Fri 03-Feb-12 16:47:06

Beginning to think a break is what you need!

bagitha Fri 03-Feb-12 16:45:28

carol, you're a bloody good cheerleader!! smile thanks

JessM Fri 03-Feb-12 16:44:06

Gimme a break bagitha

Carol Fri 03-Feb-12 16:40:33

We're marching because we can! Those politicians in their ivory towers need to realise that we are powerful and a force to be reckoned with. They have piddled around with their wishy-washy policies and flavour of the month ideas, whilst the country is losing a grip! We Gransnetters, and the rest of the senior population, have the majority of votes to dole out now, so they had better start courting US!

What do we want? Grandpower! When do we want it? Well, actually, we already have it, if we only knew! Let's use it to our advantage. March!!!!!

Won't be a minute - just putting the kettle on........

goldengirl Fri 03-Feb-12 16:38:30

I actually thought it was serious for a moment! I actually did take part in a protest in November of older people - in the drizzle - and waved my banner and was seen on TV to prove it! There was ONE policeman overseeing about 150 of us grin

jeni Fri 03-Feb-12 16:37:52

Where's Witney?

jeni Fri 03-Feb-12 16:26:01

Everything and anything anyone wants to march for. It's a general purpose march grin

whatisamashedupphrase Fri 03-Feb-12 16:21:09

Yes jeni. But senior has more respect attached to it!

So what is the march in aid of?

I'm buggered if I can remember.

bagitha Fri 03-Feb-12 16:20:36

Good thinking, anno!

Divert the tardis and the chariot! Hey, who's driving the tardis? Have we got D Tennant again?

BTW, I'm bringing bananas because DD said there aren't any in the sky – to the tune of heads, shoulders, knees and toes: There are no bananas in the sky, in the sky. And then something about coconut cream pie, but it doesn't seem to scan when I do it. confused

Annobel Fri 03-Feb-12 16:15:16

Marching on Downing Street on a Friday night could be a waste of time - better to besiege the PM in his Witney constituency where he is sure to be attending some function or other.

bagitha Fri 03-Feb-12 16:03:13

jess, some of us don't flaunt our activism. Doesn't mean we don't take part in it. Don't be so judgmental, and where's your sense of humour?

jeni Fri 03-Feb-12 15:36:29

I have pensions, ergo I am a pensioner!

whatisamashedupphrase Fri 03-Feb-12 15:33:52

I think if we ourselves all insisted on using the word "senior" instead of pensioner or OAP, "they" might get the message.

Never ask for two "pensioners'^ tickets. Always "seniors".

whatisamashedupphrase Fri 03-Feb-12 15:31:28

Your Hon Mum has got a good point there Cendrillon.

Cendrillon Fri 03-Feb-12 15:23:23

Its all relative isn't it? We're all on the same slide going down - its just that some of us are nearer the bottom than others! My Honorary Mum (83 and still full of life and vigor) tells me (65) "do what you can, WHILE you can". She thinks I'm a mere spring chicken! Bless her.
