My grandmother had a little tin, in the sideboard drawer, in which she kept all her loose change. "Fetch me my little tin" was the phrase that signalled a little something. And when DH came to take me out on a Saturday (I met him when I was 14) she would always slip half a crown into his hand as we went out. She was special.
