Hmmm! How to conceal it from the outside world? A password to a secret chamber, like the special interests section of some research libraries, where pornography sensitive texts and artistic pictures are kept?

Great idea Elegran- as long as they keep all nastiness and rudeness to THAT thread ;) (which I doubt they would).

Maybe just a thread (or whole topic) called "Censored. Abandon hope all ye who enter here" where everyone can rant and swear without being criticised and get whatever they are angry about out of their systems? Anyone of a sensitive disposition would know to avoid it.

I think Elegran's suggestion would be great fun a good idea. That Burns poem about seeing ourelves as others see us comes to mind.

I thought the introduction of the "smileys" "diversion" did just that(de-escalation) -but not a view apparently shared by some.

I certainly become more intolerant of some things as I get older, need to work on that one.

Sounds like we need a de-escalation thread where factions can change the subject and become sociable again. Not a clue how that could work.

There's already a forum like that AshTree. It's called "Mumsnet!"

And they don't intend to get so angry - it escalates. I suppose the discussion could be shifted bodily into the no-holds-barred padded cell area, but by then the damage has ben done.

I think the 'no holds barred' idea would only work if it was actually a forum, not just a thread. Then people could start threads about specific subjects within that forum. Any among us who don't like that approach to forum posts can just ignore altogether (or pop in for a sneaky read without contributing )
