oldbatty Sat 20-Oct-18 20:29:22

Wow ,what a weird thing to get agitated about.

Eyam is a very interesting and slightly sad place.

No 70s kid don’t remember the 50s. wink

I had my first kid in 89 and no one sang fishes but if you did that’s your memory. But it’s not the right words. As I said google it. Teach your kids the right historical ones. Fishes is just ignorant

Of course I care about people’s feelings that’s why I did a smiley face!

However as a 70s child whose parents were evacuated during the war and never recovered from that experience Not to mention the trauma of my grandparents from WW1 o think it’s essential to not sugar coat or bury experiences but face up to the past and arm children to live their lives In a still very scary.

Of course you don’t force knowledge of horror on toddlers but equally don’t pretend it doesn’t exist.

My grand children’s school recently taught the mantra ‘run, hide, tell, in a terrorist attacked. He’s 6. Agree it’s awful but burying your head In the sand isn’t an option unfortunately

^So you were a child 20 years ago so understand you don’t know the original
Words.^
Ha ha, more like the 1950s

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 20:04:30

Agree you obviously teach history sensitively but altering the words of a nursery rhyme that is literally historical is at best ignorant and at worst chilling.

Love it’s ashes in the water ashes in the sea not fishes.

So you were a child 20 years ago so understand you don’t know the original
Words. Google them

Jalima1108 Sat 20-Oct-18 20:01:21

Mycat All I meant was that I am not sure that 2 or 3 year olds need to learn about bodies being burned because they have died from some long-ago disease.

And I do remember singing fishes when I was a child.

Yes history and truth actually does matter!

Perhaps you, like the Donald prefer fake news and history?

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 19:56:56

Yes it really does matter actually. History isn’t bunk is it? Maybe you think it is but it really isn’t. Perhaps we could sugar coat the hollicause or down grade it?

Why would you think that changing a nursery rhyme that was based on historical fact is ok? How wierd and controlling!

Bridgeit Sat 20-Oct-18 19:55:17

Hum ( as in smelling ) because Mum deodorant will be have been banned ??

Woodstock Sat 20-Oct-18 19:36:30

So, what will 'Mum' deodorant now be called?

Jalima1108 Sat 20-Oct-18 19:32:03

Fishes in the water makes no sense as the rhyme is about the plague. It’s historical fact. We may as we’ll burn books.
hmm these are probably 2, 3 and perhaps 4 year olds.

Jalima1108 Sat 20-Oct-18 19:30:35

I'm sure that I sang fishes when I was a child and that was more than 20 years ago!

Ring a ring a roses (the marks from the plague)
Pocket full of posies (the herbs used to try to ward off the plague)
Atishoo, atishoo,
We all fall down
Fishes in the water (waving our hands around)
Fishes in the sea
We all jump up with a one, two, three!

Iam64 Sat 20-Oct-18 18:28:27

Well said that PECS.

PECS Sat 20-Oct-18 17:35:46

of course the big ship did not sail.it SANK to the bottom.of the sea!
mycat you, like all of us are free to express your opinions. However your comment about not caring about hurting people's feelings is obviously why you don't "get" thinking about how some language, attitudes and actions is important.

oldbatty Sat 20-Oct-18 17:31:43

Does it matter? Really?

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 17:31:37

Are children unable to learn about ashes as in the burning of bodies? The plague? Of course they are. It’s utter nonsense.

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 17:30:18

I like trees too. Yoga not my bag.

Fishes in the water makes no sense as the rhyme is about the plague. It’s historical fact. We may as we’ll burn books.

oldbatty Sat 20-Oct-18 17:23:14

fishes in the water has been around for a good 20 years.

I like yoga and trees btw.

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 17:19:25

Bridgeit

grin

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 17:18:20

Jalima 1108

It was we all ‘jump down’ which makes no sense.

And for ashes it was fishes in the water!

Also we sang ‘the big ship sails on the Alialioh’ all good and then I was singing ‘the big ship sailed to the bottom of the sea’ while she was singing ‘the big ship sailed all over the world’

Again another historical reference lost!

Sheer stupidity

Jalima1108 Sat 20-Oct-18 16:18:46

What did they change the words to Mycat?

Obviously they've never heard of the plague or even seen the play The Roses of Eyam.

Bridgeit Sat 20-Oct-18 16:17:36

Ohh my, you have said what I have been thinking, I maybe would have been a little retesent about using the words you have used, bit they are fit for purpose ??

Mycatisahacker Sat 20-Oct-18 16:13:31

Oh and Keira knightly boils my piss. She’s a boring as lily Allen. Yes dear you have had babies like millions of us and wait until you have been mothers for longer than 5 minutes before you start trying to pontificate and educate us all.
