What do you make of the interview? Although not agreeing with Farage I did think he had a point about the type of questions asked rather than focusing on the current situation. I think Marr was badly prepared.

I watched this interview and found it to be a complete farce. Even after asking Andrew Marr to ask him about current politics, he just kept asking historic issues.

I believe Andrew Marr was a bit embarrassed by it all towards the end.

Just remember the Brexit party was only created 4 weeks ago and is concentrating on the European elections. The party only needs one line on its manifesto and that is Brexit. Everything else will come as the party evolves and gets candidates to fight a general election.

Some people want to knock him down when we have a complete train crash in parliament at the moment who have consistently lied and hashed the truth. I am supporting the Brexit party and they may come to nothing and be just like the rest when the it comes to the crunch. The truth is we just don¿t know with them but we certainly know what we are getting at the moment and that is just not good enough.

Well said Urm. I too will support the Brexit Party for the European elections, it can’t be worse than any of the others.

A brilliant performance. I am tired of Marr's constant interruptions when supposedly interviewing, (and have complained and received apologies from the BBC about this); this morning he got a taste of his own medicine. I watch the programme because I want to hear the guests' opinions, not those of the BBC, and make my own mind up; the repetition of clips from the past was not relevant to the issue under discussion which is the perceived abuse of democracy. As Farage said, where are the BBC when he is campaigning; important to hear just what he is saying and form our own judgement.

Well, that’s all interesting to read. I thought Farage was dire. Loud, aggressive, easily riled, a sad blustering little man. Embarrassing to have him as a spokesman for our country.

Urmstongran Sun 12-May-19 22:11:31

Amazing that Marr thought going through a list of Farage quotes from years ago was the best interview technique to explore why the Brexit Party could be the largest party in the EU elections next week.

All it showed was his personal prejudice against Leaving the EU and animosity towards Farage.

The crucial point is that Farage has always supported leaving the Customs Union and Single Market and replacing with a Free Trade Agreement instead.

The May/EU Withdrawal agreement is staying effectively in both without any voting rights, so as Farage says is the worst possible outcome. It’s why no one likes it and it won’t pass (again) when re-presented to the HoC!

GracesGranMK3 Sun 12-May-19 22:41:38

I thought he was dire too Grandma70s. The questioning was no different to the way any politician is questioned. What they have said in the past is also brought up. He just didn't have any answers. He couldn't be clear on the NHS, etc either, and looked rattled to me.

Bridgeit Sun 12-May-19 22:46:18

I agree with you Grandma70s.
Some might interpret his demeanour as strength & decisiveness IMO it is an overinflated Ego, brashness & a disregard for stability.

Urmstongran Sun 12-May-19 22:47:29

We all see what we want to see I suppose.

I’m glad he’s come forward to further the Brexit cause. He wouldn’t have needed to if we had left, as promised ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’ on 29th March!

May has betrayed the whole country- whichever side you voted in 2016. The vassal treaty is a disgrace. We need someone who will at least fight Britain's corner, and not capitulate to Brussels.

Bridgeit Sun 12-May-19 22:53:16

If we had voted to remain there would be no need for fights!
Warmongering already !

I thought Farage was awful (no change there!). He seems to think it's OK to have a party with no policies, no membership, no manifesto, no ideas as to how the country (or indeed Europe) should be governed. It's a one-man, one-idea party, and even when he'd expressed his one idea (Brexit) half a dozen times, he refused to answer questions on anything else. He clearly has no idea what being in government would entail, so let's hope he never gets into Westminster. He can't do much damage in the EU Parliament, he'll just be a laughing stock there.

I didn’t see the interview, but if it makes the Beeb think about it’s interviewing techniques it can’t have been totally bad.

Radio Four interviewers in the morning are particularly bad and just talk over the interviewee all the time. We get their views but not those of the person we really want to hear from.

NfkDumpling Mon 13-May-19 07:17:25

Actually, listening to Sarah right now, it does seem to have had an effect already!

Firecracker123 Mon 13-May-19 07:45:53

The BBC has received nearly £5 million since 2015 from the EU says it all really. The Bias BBC or Brussels Broadcasting Company ?
I thought the whole interview was bizarre. Andrew Marr should hang his head in shame.

MawBroonsback Mon 13-May-19 07:46:45

Sounds to me as if Andrew Marr did a damn good job of skewering the odious little creep!
I have read accounts of it although I did not see it live and if it rattled NF so much the better. He is so selective with what he wants the public to think he is for or against, depending on how the wind is blowing..
I understand that in the interview Marr asked NF if he was “uncomfortable with foreign languages being spoken on trains” following a remark he made to that effect in 2014.
NF replied: “You are just not interested, are you? Let’s talk about democracy, let’s talk about trust, let’s talk about competence in politics. This is ludicrous.” A question about his comments from 2015 about replacing the NHS with a system of private health insurance led to NF saying: “This is all very boring, isn’t it? All you want to do is go back to stuff from years ago. Why don’t we talk about ‘now’ in British politics?”
Following a query on whether he still believed that global warming was the “stupidest thing in human history”, he said: “Here we are with one of the biggest changes in politics that has ever occurred, and you are not even interested. What is wrong with the BBC?”

What is wrong with NF? We may well ask.

Firecracker123 Mon 13-May-19 08:05:15

Perhaps you should watch the interview first before giving your biased opinion just a thought.

Iam64 Mon 13-May-19 08:05:44

Before voting for the Brexit party, look at the history of the candidates. One man is under investigation for his rape threats towards Jess Philips. A woman, formerly a candidate for the communist party, stands by her belief that we should all be free to watch jihadi videos, including those showing beheadings and to down load images of children being sexually abused (often called child porn, an expression that should never be used)

As for Farage, he is indeed a loathsome individual who lacks ethics - as can be seen by his choice of candidates. Why shouldn't he be asked about previous comments. Every other politician is expected to answer for their past as well as current belief systems.

annodomini Mon 13-May-19 08:16:47

Well said, Iam

Blinko Mon 13-May-19 08:47:51

I saw the interview and agree with MawBroonsback and others who thought NF came across as unable to answer straight policy questions, becoming defensive and angry.

Bluster, and attacking AM and the beeb seemed to be his chosen strategy. He could have put his current policies across in answer to AM's questioning, but didn't.

I thought it showed him in his true colours. Isn't that what a good interview should do?

Lovetopaint037 Mon 13-May-19 08:58:23

Farage is a creep. Can’t stand him. Really like Andrew Marr

Firecracker123 Mon 13-May-19 09:05:25

Iam64 perhaps you should get your facts right before trying to smear the Brexit Party the man accused of rape threats against Jess Phillips is a UKIP candidate.

Grandma70s Mon 13-May-19 09:59:39

UKIP, Brexit, all much of a muchness.

Firecracker123 Mon 13-May-19 10:13:36

Just shows how out of touch you are then Grandma with what is happening to UK politics and the growing support for the Brexit Party.

Urmstongran Mon 13-May-19 10:17:50

UKIP and the Brexit Party are not the same at all.

GillT57 Mon 13-May-19 10:22:18

Farage is a nasty manipulative piece of work who seems to have pulled the wool over a lot of people's eyes. I despair.
