to think that perhaps we should be more tolerant of fellow posters?

I have just read a thread where a person has told a previous poster that they 'sound like a six year old'
I won't go into details of that particular thread, but none of us really know how others are feeling. There have been several comments on other threads slamming people down.
We are going through a very strange period of history at the moment and I'm sure many Gnetters are scared, alone and feeling vulnerable.
Some I'm sure are coping well, others not so well.
Feelings can easily be hurt, so please, let's all think twice and perhaps, if we can't say something nice say nothing at all?

I agree.

I agree

I agree, too.

I think people already are being tolerant.
Its nice to see a different side to some people, and I think they're enjoying it too. smile

People are mostly very tolerant. Sometimes what seems a rather sharp reply is an answer to a previous post which has been unreasonable.

Callistemon Wed 25-Mar-20 20:29:24

I agree and also think that most posters are being very reasonable, sensible and sensitive.

The written word can sometimes look a little harsh and I'm sure some people must regret posting an unkind remark when they look back on it. I am fairly new here, but have already worked out who is intolerant and bigoted .... they do tend to stick out .... so I avoid answering their posts.

I agree - let’s just continue to support each other in these difficult times

Not allowing people to say anything that someone else might think "not nice" is censorship. Sometimes things which are, or might be seen as, "not nice" need saying, especially if they are in response to something challenging or stupid.

You can say things which need saying but which some people think are "not nice" without slamming people down. You can slam an argument down though. That's within debating rules.

Agreed.

MawB Wed 25-Mar-20 21:22:05

Unfair to six year-olds gringrin ??????

Chewbacca Wed 25-Mar-20 21:23:08

I agree wholeheartedly Baggs but telling someone that they're like a 6 year old is rude, unkind and doesn't add anything to the discussion or debate.

Just been reading the thread about PC and Coronavirus. I can see why some react very strongly to other posters.

MissAdventure Wed 25-Mar-20 22:02:56

Ah, anything to do with the royals seems to inflame some people.
It always surprises me that people hold such strong feelings one way or the other.

Chewbacca Wed 25-Mar-20 22:12:20

Nor me MissA. Especially when it all gets very heated and irate. It's not as though any of the royal will ever read the outpourings of furious debate and then go away and think "hmmm, may be we should mend our ways", is it?

MissAdventure Wed 25-Mar-20 22:14:40

I'm not a royalist at all, but sometimes I find myself chipping in. grin

Pikachu Wed 25-Mar-20 22:14:51

Exactly MissAdventure. While I agree with the OP in general terms, when some people are prepared to be downright nasty about a public figure (as an example) and think they can post whatever they want, sometimes in the most vitriolic terms, then surely they cannot be surprised when someone replies in an equally strong way.

They can dish it out but not take it in return.

Not saying I agree but I was shocked by some of the posts and not surprised by the reactions they triggered.

Callistemon Wed 25-Mar-20 22:14:59

I think we should be able to say what we are thinking without personal attacks - or without making attacks on the public services either
