Regional Newspapers, dumbing down.

I live in Hull a great City with a not so great reputation.
Our local paper is an appalling rag and is getting worse.
It is not promoting the city just dumbing everything down.
The link is to an article posted yesterday that has now been pulled after I complained and pointed out the site was in fact pornographic videos!
The Daily Star have now picked up the story!
Are regional papers all the same or is there some intelligent reporting out there

Same newspaper. It used to be a good local newspaper but sadly no longer.

It's a country wide problem sadly. Circulation figures declined, freebies started to be delivered to our doors, the emergence of alternative news sources. Then titles bought up by companies with no interest in local news, just looking for advertising revenue and now that is disappearing. Regionals didn't stand a chance.

I was stunned by that article too Missfoodlove. The local paper is happily promoting the idea that young girls sell photos of themselves in various states of undress in order to get off the dole.

Ours is rubbish really. DH still reads it out of loyalty, I think, but it’s just a few pages of adverts with a couple of local stories shovelled in and an events listing you could get online. Lots of photos from the archives and a few generic articles about cleaning, or healthy living. It takes about 10 minutes to read. Apparently the crossword’s good. smile

At least it hasn’t resorted to porn yet.

Vampirequeen. I have emailed the editor twice as there is a screenshot of the girls profile saying she does videos of “girl on girl and double penetration”

The paper was totally disinterested.
As a parent and grandparent I am truly appalled that this would ever make the local paper.

I just hope the free advertising our paper has given this site doesn’t encourage more girls to follow suit.

Ours used to be really good, now it's lots of ads and covers a huge area, with places in it that are of no interest to me. It was a delivered freebie, but I only see copies in the local supermarkets or you can read it online, and I can't be bothered.

The HDM really doesn't care anymore. I read it online and a lot of the stories seem to be taken from other newspapers in other areas.

Ours has all but disappeared. I used to buy it every week. Now it's a freebie from supermarkets and there's an online version. The revenue they had from advertisements has all but disappeared - so it's a pale, slim shadow of it's former self.

unfortunately most of them were bought up by large advertising conglomerates some 20-30 yrs ago.
one of the few that actually still is independent and carries insightful probing journalism is the Camden New Journal.

Today the HDM is promoting prostitution. Not only is it reporting on it but actually tells you when and where this lady will actually be available for business.
