Following on from the thread about knitted Christmas decorations, I found a lovely Jean Greenhowe free pattern for eggs in cups which can contain a Creme Egg if you wish.

Just knitted an egg in egg cup, but cast on too tightly so the chocolate egg won't go in! Fortunately there is an option to knit an egg instead. Think I will try larger needles next time, 3mm is quite small for double knitting.

Can anyone tell me wht the two loops are that you've to knit at the top of the 'egg cup' please ?
Have knitted 2 already and they look great.

Any suggestions for a 9-year-old GD who 'isn't really into chocolate'. Last year I gave her a china egg with a pretty pendant inside it. She is a world-class bookworm, so perhaps something book related would be appropriate.

grannyhaggis I think the two loops you mention are the double stitches resulting from the rows using 2 strands of wool.
annobel I have a 10 year old GD and my 5 GSs are aged between 8 and 12. The parents do not want them to have chocolate, so I am struggling for ideas too. I think I may just secrete some money in the above knitted eggs.

I agree with you grannyhaggis the instructions at the top of the egg cup are confusing, but just knit the double stiches in white (or flesh colour) through the back of the two loops as if it were one stitch. DH saw me bringing in a box of six Creme Eggs; he didn't say anything, but thought I was having a private feast!! When he saw the knitted egg-cup eggs he understood. [I'm knitting five, but if I can stop myself eating the one over I'll do him one] They do look good, so thanks again for the site shysal smile

I have finished knitting 6 of these novelty eggs - see photo on my profile. I am quite pleased with them. I knitted eggs to insert inside, wrapped in a tenner, so hope they will be well received. The GCs have too much chocolate from other family members so I was asked not to give them Easter eggs.
