Woollen pompoms to deter crime?

There is a tree near here that appears to have been clothed in purple knitted squares. It looks very nice but I'm not convinced it will stop crime. smile

confused. Isn't the essence of guerrilla knitting that it is somehow anarchic? Are the police making the pompoms?
There was the research that pumping out classical music deters "undesirable" hanging around in public places. All for making environment nicer but , well , confused by this example.

Check out graffiti grannys on facebook. They're brilliant and link to loads of other amazinf creativity. Don't know about stopping crime. I don't think that's the real plan with yarn-bombing.
