Own design picture jumpers

Grandchildren requested new jumpers and I expected designs like dinosaur and unicorn. However, insects and guinea pigs were asked for! As I couldn't find any knitting patterns for these, I decided to see if I could invent my own. Here are the results.

If anyone wants more information about how I did it, I'll try to explain. The designs are pretty much how you would do cross stitch or tapestry, with counted squares.

They are lovely! I like the wiggly worms along the bottom and on the sleeves.

Very well done!

Your grandchildren will love their gorgeous jumpers, Farmor15 !

I'm sure there's a lot of love knitted in with those cute creatures.

When my boys were wee, I knitted them cartoon character jumpers, Aran knits and Icelandic style sweaters. Now it takes me all my time to manage plain and purl and a wee cable for the grandchildren.

Well done Farmor15, they are lovely.

When DS1 was about 11 ish, he asked for a Starsky and Hutch jumper. Remember them?
DD asked for a yoked jumper with music notes, and it had to be playable!
So, she wrote the score and I knitted it. ?

How lovely, those children are lucky.

A triumph ?

Well done indeed!
It's a long time since I knitted sweaters with pictures and I never attempted my own designs.

Unfortunately they are too grown up for home-knitted sweaters now although DGD2 did gracefully accept a cardigan which I sewed up in lockdown after it had sat in the bag for a year. Luckily it still fitted her.

You should patent your design, farmor, or whatever it is you do with knitting patterns.
Copyright?

They will be thrilled.

Well done. They will love them.

Thanks for the compliments! They were fun to do, particularly the insect one. I used a basic jumper pattern I had used before, but had to test out the motifs first on a strip of knitting to see how they would look.

Farmor15, I would love to know how you did them. I have just been asking about swiss darning. Any help would be appreciated. I have been asked to knit a jumper with a dinosaur on

Farmor15 you are clever! I am in awe of anyone who crafts anything, but to design too ???

Puzzler61 Sun 27-Dec-20 14:15:51

What a success. You are very talented Farmir , and they are lucky children to be getting those jumpers.

Chardy Sun 27-Dec-20 15:30:36

Well done, Farmor.
Did anyone see the gran whose little DGD designed a jumper for homework, and like Farmor, creative grannie turned it into a real jumper for her?

I just love your jumpers Farmore such a great talent. I've been a knitter and chrocheter for years but never designed anything more complicated than a beret.

P1234 - for my first attempt at picture jumpers I found patterns by Linda Moorhouse. These are the previous ones.
www.ravelry.com/designers/Linda-moorhouse?page=1
I paid a small amount to download the pattern but instructions were good and they came out well. She has some dinosaur designs, but when I was asked for insects this time I couldn’t find anything online so made my own with the aid of pixelated images.
