These tales are very consoling. There are times when I worry about doing silly things, but my neighbour, who is a teacher, tells me that at the end of every week there is a cloakroom full of coats, trainers, lunch boxes and so on. They have been forgotten. And forgotten by people fifty or so years younger than most of us.

MiceElf Is it comforting or not that they are so much younger?

MiceElf Mon 21-Jan-13 20:26:47

Now there's a question. Whichever way it is answered it cheers ME up!

I was absent-minded at that age as well - known for it in the family and at school.

Ana Mon 21-Jan-13 20:45:25

They're just children, though, aren't they? Their heads are full of much more interesting and important things than coats and lunch boxes!

I once made a hairdressing appointment in my maiden name, years after I married, and got cross when I thought they had no record of me! I could not blame my age for that.

Some laughing around here having read all your posts...makes me feel soooooooo much better..

annodomini Mon 21-Jan-13 21:02:46

Ana - that's our excuse/reason. Our heads are full of the things we've learnt over the last 50/60/70+ years!

Getting short on memory? Full hard disk?

Mine could be familial....nice story in my uncle's notes for his life (that he never got to write) - about, as a teenager, taking a tram with bucket etc, to clean up the new house they were moving to - and leaving all the stuff on the tram when they got off.....

My youngest grandson can be good at forgetting stuff too!

When I was about 4 my mother was working in the garden with the help of Old Len Peat the gardener (really!) She turned to me and asked me to go and get her boots for her. I can't remember looking for the boots, but did remember wandering down the garden carrying an old enamel potty. I still feel mortified, nearly 60 years later, that Old Len Peat saw me carrying such an object blush.

hello Jess missed your post before. Glad to be back....I know I'm erratic but I am around usually !

Kali Mon 21-Jan-13 22:47:43

Yes welcome back Allie how's next doors rampant ivy?

Ariadne Tue 22-Jan-13 05:16:32

Hi Allie! Are you awake? I'm in the slightly insomniac phase!

AlieOxon Tue 22-Jan-13 21:34:59

Hi Ariadne and Kali...was awake but reading - sorry! Often insomniac.

The ivy is still rampant - one woman from the council and one councillor have been in touch since New Year, but although I keep being told that something will be done, what and when remains elusive.

Will the SODC act before the sparrows nest in the ivy? ...Watch this space.

Tegan Tue 22-Jan-13 23:27:29

So, when we're young we're forgetful, then we are pregnant and have baby brain, then we don't get much sleep for years and that's an excuse..then we can blame the menopause and now we can say our heads are full of too much information...[what excuses do men have..other than being men...]

glassortwo Tue 22-Jan-13 23:30:39

grin well they say men only think of one thing so there is no room for anything else.

Tegan Tue 22-Jan-13 23:39:17

AlieOxon Wed 23-Jan-13 16:51:06
