River and Anno not posh, just like dance in all its forms. Think Fred Astaire, Strictly, Bollywood, Stomp etc. none of them posh and certainly Maurice wasn't posh! One of his last pieces was all to music by Queen and most people wouldn't think there was anything posh about that. I loved it. Still watch it on DVD.

I have never assumed that dance is elite! It is open to all in its various forms and requires no specialist knowledge in order to enjoy it. It is often a lot cheaper to go to see dance than to go to a football match and I don't thinkmany would call football 'elite'

I had thought things were getting better on GN in the last few days but once again you have had a go at me. Why? Please stop it, I think we all find it unpleasant.

I have not met m/any famous people! I used to see Alan Tichmarsh quite a lot years ago before her was famous as he is (still) good mates with mutual friends and we went to watch them in their Am Dram shows.

I heard Edwina Currie speak and though I do not share her party politics her passion for getting more women into politics ..at all levels and for any political 'colour' I did support!

However I do have a lot of extremely interesting longstanding friends and we meet often and always have lively and stimulating discussions about a variety of subjects!

I have cousin who is married to a very interesting man (journalist) who spent many years in an Israeli jail.. knows all sorts of interesting things and has a refreshing view on life.

My DH is QI..but probably not now the most interesting..but perhaps I just know him too well!

I genuinely can't answer this question. I've met many interesting people, but none that stands out, and if I'm honest some of the more interesting people were ones that I didn't really admire. Now if you asked me who do I admire then I would say my husband and his parents; you will never have heard of them, but they have enormous hearts and are extremely kind people; my in laws work tirelessly for the benefit of others and do it without fanfare. I think there are a lot of other lovely people around like them too.

I called in to see a friend, a professional stage magician, n around 1970-71, and he introduced me to his house guest, a little, bearded man who explained that he was in the UK to publicise his book, an exposé called The Magic if Uri Geller. his name was James Randi, known professionally as The Amazing Randi.

Today, in his eighties Randi is still involved with his James Randi Educational Foundation, which still offers $1,000,000 to anybody who can demonstrate any kind of supernatural 'power' or ability, under test conditions.

He has spent much of his life exposing those who cheat the public, people like the 'faith healer' Peter Popoff for example, using his knowledge of the tricks and methods of the magician to ferret out their cheating.

Kali not having heard of Maurice Bejart does not make you, or anyone else, a phillistine in my opinion but clearly absent thinks it does.

Hope I'll keep on learning until the day I pop my clogs. Would hate to think I know it all already.

Riverwalk It's not surprising if you've never heard of Maurice Béjart if you have no interest in dance. However, I feel fairly sure that there are more than two Gransnetters with a knowledge of and interest in the subject. In spite of the Empress of Iran (surely ex-Empress now), he was a truly kind and helpful man with time and patience for people far less talented and influential than he was.

Does that mean absent that those who have not heard of Maurice Bejart are philistines.

I bet 95% of the people reading GN would not have a clue who Maurice Bejart was/is.
