I don't use this to go to sleep, but to do Pilates & it's like the music they use in beauty salons when you're having a massage.

I have a recording of the dawn chorus and of beach sounds - I find those very restful at night when I cannot sleep. Just google it - there are loads of them.

I don't use music, but for me yoga breathing really works.

I put Classic FM on the bedside radio at 10pm absolutely beautiful relaxing music at that time.

Greyduster Mon 11-Apr-16 09:12:04

The one that I fell back on often during a particularly stressful time was Bach's "Pastorale" from his Christmas Oratorio. Other than that, it's the likes of Schumann's "Traumerei", Debussy's "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" or his "Reverie".

After the death of my father, 27 years ago, I commandeered his tape of Chopin nocturnes and played it when I went to bed. I still find it the most relaxing music I know.

Music doesn't work for me, I need voices. I listen to Radio 4 or an audio book.

Worlass Mon 11-Apr-16 10:34:33

I'm another Radio 4 addict. Most nights I switch on my bedside radio for the news at 10 and am usually asleep before Book at Bedtime at 10.45. The radio remains switched on all night, so whenever I wake up (usually for the loo!) it is chatting away to itself. I hear odd things from the World Service, and (blush) School Programmes during term-time. I have tried to wean myself away from the habit, but find that if I don't have the background chatter I find it difficult to drop off to sleep again. I usually hear the late-night and 5.20 a.m. Shipping Forecasts, to the point that I can almost recite them alongside the announcer. I have tried an automatic timer to switch off after an hour or so, but the click it made woke me up!
Reading this, I can appreciate that my routine is anything but relaxing! Must try harder! blush

worlass I would take a recording of the shipping forecast to my desert island, and it would be the one I would save out of the eight!

Worlass Mon 11-Apr-16 10:46:47

Yes, Greyduster, there's something hypnotic about it. I do miss some of the old names, such as Finisterre, though.

Try Dr Hilary Jones, relaxation cd, lovely soothing classical music

Fitzroy doesn't have the same ring does it? And where did Ronaldsway disappear to?

Greyduster Mon 11-Apr-16 11:29:56

I always fall asleep around St Catherine's point.(isle of Wight)

Gaggi3 Mon 11-Apr-16 11:40:02

I don't use music to help me sleep. I just go to bed planning to listen to what's on Radio 4 or 4Extra at 11 o'clock and often don't hear a single word!

NanKate Mon 11-Apr-16 12:20:11

Brilliant thanks for all your great suggestions. moon

Aled Jones - Suo Gan. It is a traditional Welsh lullaby. My GDs love it too

HannahLoisLuke Mon 11-Apr-16 13:48:19

Actually I'm a bedtime radio addict too Worlass although my choice is usually radio 5live unless they're covering sport, then it's radio 4 and world service. I love the shipping forecast and its theme tune and the idea of being tucked up in bed listening to the same thing as sailors on stormy seas is somehow very comforting.
My radio is on all night too.
