I'm another Radio 4 addict. Most nights I switch on my bedside radio for the news at 10 and am usually asleep before Book at Bedtime at 10.45. The radio remains switched on all night, so whenever I wake up (usually for the loo!) it is chatting away to itself. I hear odd things from the World Service, and (blush) School Programmes during term-time. I have tried to wean myself away from the habit, but find that if I don't have the background chatter I find it difficult to drop off to sleep again. I usually hear the late-night and 5.20 a.m. Shipping Forecasts, to the point that I can almost recite them alongside the announcer. I have tried an automatic timer to switch off after an hour or so, but the click it made woke me up!
Reading this, I can appreciate that my routine is anything but relaxing! Must try harder!
