Tensions are running high at HQ. So far we're debating the merits of the yellow toffee finger, the purple one and the green triangle. Shall we do an unscientific poll on here and decide which is the most popular?

silverlining48 Thu 06-Dec-18 13:57:58

None, give me a rocher any day but if push comes to shove would have to go with the green triangle, though it’s been years since I last had one. If I get given a box of quality street After the first feelings of huge disappointment I pass on to someone who appreciates them.

MiniMoon Thu 06-Dec-18 13:58:53

The purple one with the hazelnut is my personal favourite, closely followed by the toffee finger.
But why oh why are the tins contain 3rd so small now? You can't fit a tray bake or a decent sponge cake in them any more!!!

MiniMoon Thu 06-Dec-18 14:01:02

Containers! Where did 3rd come from!

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 06-Dec-18 14:06:08

YES, silverlining, the green triangles are my favourite too. But there was much derision from the orange and strawberry cream brigade. grin

mumofmadboys Thu 06-Dec-18 14:09:43

Definitely the purple one!

Auntieflo Thu 06-Dec-18 14:10:35

My favourite is the purple one with a hazlenut, closely followed by the soft toffee/ caramel ones.

matson Thu 06-Dec-18 14:14:11

Another vote for the purple one

boheminan Thu 06-Dec-18 14:15:18

The brown square fudgy one, closely followed by - yes - the purple one!

Bathsheba Thu 06-Dec-18 14:18:00

Purple one for me too! It looks as if several of us would just like a box of purple ones wink

DanniRae Thu 06-Dec-18 14:19:26

Both my husband and I like the purple one best!

Doris19 Thu 06-Dec-18 14:23:28

Green triangle without a doubt but tin doesn't last long nowadays! smile

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 06-Dec-18 14:25:53

Toffee finger all the way! tchgrin

kittylester Thu 06-Dec-18 14:33:20

Purple ones and green ones.

Nobody likes the coffee ones!

Bathsheba Thu 06-Dec-18 14:35:33

I used to love the toffee fingers, but I'm afraid my teeth don't these days, so I have to watch someone else pick them sad

Bathsheba Thu 06-Dec-18 14:36:02

The toffee fingers, that is, not my teeth hmm grin

Marydoll Thu 06-Dec-18 14:46:13

Fudge with pink wrapper and orange creams!

I opened a box last night that was destined for someone's stocking! blush

Nonnie Thu 06-Dec-18 15:09:50

None of them, we boycott anything made by Nestle because of their unethical behavior. Sorry, don't want to spoil the fun but I feel very strongly about them.

FlexibleFriend Thu 06-Dec-18 15:26:44

KatyK Thu 06-Dec-18 15:43:35

I hate nuts so no purple one for me. I love strawberry cream.

Jalima1108 Thu 06-Dec-18 15:54:56

The Purple One

although I will finish off the coffee creams if no-one else wants them, thanks kittylester

aggie Thu 06-Dec-18 15:56:48

The Green one , by a mile smile

ninathenana Thu 06-Dec-18 16:00:02

Purple one for me and what's best about that is nobody else likes them.
Also like the flat round toffee.

Nannylovesshopping Thu 06-Dec-18 16:11:29

The strawberry cream my gd and I have eaten them all already and it was supposed to be the Christmas tub😂 we needed cheering up

Mapleleaf Thu 06-Dec-18 16:18:30

Purple one and green one are my favourites. tchsmile

Grannybags Thu 06-Dec-18 16:40:02

Green triangle for me please! tchsmile

BBbevan Thu 06-Dec-18 16:51:14

Orange cream for me. Much prefer Qualiy Street. Roses have put all their chocolates in little envelopes. Not the same at all. But that's the new Cadbury's for you

shysal Thu 06-Dec-18 16:56:58

Purple one with green in second place.

They used to sell packs with all the same in these colours but haven't seen them recently.

HootyMcOwlface Thu 06-Dec-18 17:02:49

Well I used to like the coffee ones, but as they’ve not been seen for a few years now, I go for the round caramel ones or orange creams.

KatyK Thu 06-Dec-18 17:10:05

You can buy packs of some favourites, including the purple one, on eBay. Some John Lewis stores are doing the same I believe.

Buffybee Thu 06-Dec-18 17:15:14

Toffee finger for me, although I'll eat all of them, if I have the chance!wink

Kittye Thu 06-Dec-18 17:43:15

Fudge and Strwaberry for me 😋

Kittye Thu 06-Dec-18 17:43:56

Or even Strawberry !

gmelon Thu 06-Dec-18 17:50:52

Pink fudgey one.
Followed by toffee penny
followed by the whole tub

Auntieflo Thu 06-Dec-18 18:38:20

Oh Kittylester. I do luurve the coffee ones, if I can find them

Auntieflo Thu 06-Dec-18 18:40:17

Please could we all get together for a swop shop?
I can’t stand the orange and strawberry creams, ugh!

MissAdventure Thu 06-Dec-18 18:42:10

I think the purple one is very overrated.
Nuts are my favourite food, but the ones in those are tiny, and the gloopy stuff is too runny.
I prefer the green ones.

Nandalot Thu 06-Dec-18 19:03:19

Purple, purple, purple!

Jalima1108 Thu 06-Dec-18 19:14:12

leave some for us Nandalot!

Greyduster Thu 06-Dec-18 19:19:21

Green ones for me, and the pink fudge ones. The strawberry creams are always reserved for GS! I remember one year an aunt who I was very fond of bought me a small round tin full of the round flat toffees. I wouldn’t have dreamed of telling her that I didn’t like toffees. Fortunately, my father did!

Maggymay Thu 06-Dec-18 19:43:34

The purple one fortunately DH doesn’t like them.

Pittcity Thu 06-Dec-18 19:46:49

I like the coconut one and the toffee penny.
I'm happy to finish off the box when you lot have eaten all the others.

Framilode Thu 06-Dec-18 19:48:13

I love the coffee ones. I used to adore the coffee cream in Black Magic. It was a new moon shape but was discontinued. I don't think coffee can be a popular flavour.

phoenix Thu 06-Dec-18 19:58:48

Bleurgh to the orange and strawberry creams, we had a box of them at work the other day, and by the time I got to them that was all that was left!!

Speaks volumes...........

Greenfinch Thu 06-Dec-18 20:02:55

Hard caramel ones.

annodomini Thu 06-Dec-18 20:25:12

I guess I need to go and sample all of them before I can comment!

TerriBull Thu 06-Dec-18 20:33:25

The Purple one and it will win by a mile!

John Lewis now do a "select your favourite chocs" for Quality Street, but they charge through the nose for the made up tin.

Marmight Thu 06-Dec-18 20:38:13

Favourite used to be orange cream but my taste buds have changed so another vote for the PURPLE one

joannapiano Thu 06-Dec-18 22:04:11

Just eaten a coffee one. It was rather nice. Toffee ones loosen my denture.

M0nica Thu 06-Dec-18 23:05:38

I used to like the round flat toffees, but I do not think they include those anymore. sad

To be fair, I cannot remember when I last ate any sweets, let alone Quality Street. Easter?

Bellanonna Thu 06-Dec-18 23:11:04

Green triangle then the pink-wrapped fudge

HillyN Thu 06-Dec-18 23:16:09

Another vote for the purple one, closely followed by the coconut one. My DH and I are ideally suited- he likes all the creams and I like all the nut/toffee ones!

harrigran Fri 07-Dec-18 07:58:59

None, they are all horrible.

Pittcity Fri 07-Dec-18 08:03:45

DH votes for the purple one.

Karanlouise Fri 07-Dec-18 09:25:32

Green triangle, followed by any chocolate toffee ones, not good for the teeth though. tchsmile

MissAdventure Fri 07-Dec-18 09:27:13

I prefer Roses.
They have the lovely hazelnut whirl.

JessK Fri 07-Dec-18 10:13:44

It has to be the purple one or any of the others with nuts in.

Larissa67 Fri 07-Dec-18 10:23:38

Am I dreaming of did I read of a pack on sale called the big purple one with just these aristocrats of the chocolate world? I remember being so disappointed as a child if someone else nabbed them first though the gold wrapped toffee was a consolation prize.

Twopence Fri 07-Dec-18 10:45:04

Definitely the purple one but any is better than none.

Emma49 Fri 07-Dec-18 11:07:01

Fudge one.

Craftycat Fri 07-Dec-18 11:38:49

I am that person - I love the coffee ones!!! I get loads that way too.

humptydumpty Fri 07-Dec-18 12:02:15

purple followed by green triangle followed by coffee!

Jane10 Fri 07-Dec-18 12:10:33

Hotel Chocolat has spoiled me for Quality Street and Roses. sad

JessieW Fri 07-Dec-18 13:29:22

Blue coconut followed by the purple caramel and hazelnut. Mmmmmm

Jane10 Fri 07-Dec-18 13:56:31

Is it me or are they sort of sicklier than they used to be?

Holidayenthusiast Fri 07-Dec-18 14:57:08

Another vote here for the purple one followed closely by the green one!

lemongrove Fri 07-Dec-18 15:02:46

None of them, all sweet and sickly, so much sugar in them and less chocolate.

lemongrove Fri 07-Dec-18 15:03:26

Paynes Chocolate Brazils are the way to go!

Audrie57 Fri 07-Dec-18 15:24:22

oohhh nnnooooo its the green Rectangle coconut its yummy

Joelise Fri 07-Dec-18 15:44:15

Purple ones , green triangles, then pink fudge, but they’re not as yummy as Lindt Lindor’s !

David1968 Fri 07-Dec-18 15:56:21

Would it be heresy to say I'm no longer that keen on any of the Quality Street chocs? I love chocolate but (like lemongrove) I find QS to be too "sugary". But if I'm offered a really good quality chocolate, with a high cocoa content, then that's a different story.....and I could scoff the lot.....

Nelliemoser Fri 07-Dec-18 16:54:35

None of them. These seem to me to be revoltingly sweet.

Jane10 Fri 07-Dec-18 16:58:56

Oh good. It's not just me then. Have they changed the ingredients for the worse or have we Grans just developed more sophisticated palates? (Clue: the last one!)

Shinyredcar Fri 07-Dec-18 17:03:42

The purple one for me, too, though I like the long chocolate caramel ones if all the purple ones have gone.

Mum loved the purple ones and the best Christmas present I ever gave her was one year when they made a box of just purple ones, with instructions to eat them all herself!

labazs1964 Fri 07-Dec-18 18:01:07

toffee finger followed by the purple hazel nut one rounded off by the toffee barrel if they still do it

Nannyali Fri 07-Dec-18 18:08:49

Gold toffee ! But can’t have them anymore as they have a habit of breaking my teeth.

Lynne59 Fri 07-Dec-18 18:49:48

The big purple one, definitely.

EllanVannin Fri 07-Dec-18 18:54:11

I don't like them. Those and Rose's smell horrible when you take the lid off-----puts me right off them.

They were better when they were in tins and made by Macintosh.

Treebee Fri 07-Dec-18 19:13:31

The purple one for me! DH and I recently did the York Chocolate Tour during which we were offered a Quality Street each. The guide hunted out a purple one for me while everyone else meekly took what they were given!

MawBroon Fri 07-Dec-18 19:39:55

Never quite seen the appeal of Quality Street sad
Perhaps more research is needed? 🤔🤔

Pearlsaminger Fri 07-Dec-18 20:12:19

The purple one informed me in Christmas Day a few years ago that I have a nut allergy. shock

So the toffee in chocolate is my favourite... but it’ll cost me a fortune in dentists bills early in 2019! grin

Jalima1108 Fri 07-Dec-18 22:55:29

Perhaps it stems from the days where there wasn't so much choice MawBroon - it was a contest between Quality Street and Roses.

MawBroon Fri 07-Dec-18 23:27:18

I don’t think I was treated to either as a child.
Best we ever got was a tin of shortbreadsad

Jalima1108 Fri 07-Dec-18 23:30:14

My Dad always bought Roses - they came in large glass jars in those days and I still use the jars to store pasta etc.

These days I would rather have a small amount of really good chocolate instead.

However, I could force down Quality Street if the good chocolate isn't available. grin

Smurf44 Sat 08-Dec-18 02:09:25

Definitely the purple one with the nut inside, closely followed by the green triangle. With the QS containers being sooooo small now, it is unlikely I will taste either this year! Especially as we usually favour the Heroes selection.

Blue45Sapphire Sat 08-Dec-18 07:59:11

I love the coffee ones, my very favouritest(!) chocolate. I would pay good money for a whole box of coffee creams.

MawBroon Sat 08-Dec-18 08:06:47

However, I could force down Quality Street if the good chocolate isn't available
That’s the spirit Jalima - that’s what made Britain Great!

sodapop Sat 08-Dec-18 08:40:00

Sorry QS lovers I find them sickly and synthetic. Like EllanVannin the smell puts me off.

JessK Sat 08-Dec-18 10:05:53

They were discussing this on the BBC this morning. Apparently there are less of the favourites in each box these days to try and make us buy bigger boxes!

Jalima1108 Sat 08-Dec-18 12:57:38

that’s what made Britain Great!

MawBroon it's what made my hips a bit greater than they should be too!!
Although I admit to eating only one bar of good chocolate in the past five months and not another choc has passed my lips - and it hasn't made a jot of difference sad

Witzend Sat 08-Dec-18 14:58:51

My local John Lewis has a pick-your-favourites stand. Take a tin and fill it with the ones you like. Brilliant.

cavewoman Sat 08-Dec-18 15:24:21

Orange crunch

Witzend You must have at least four different varieties though.

ajanela Sat 08-Dec-18 16:12:16

The purple one.

Anmar Sun 09-Dec-18 19:59:25

The green triangle definately, with a chaser of the purple one! Yummy.

Flaxseed Sun 09-Dec-18 21:50:45

Toffee Penny here tchsmile

seacliff Sun 09-Dec-18 21:53:40

Green triangle, but I also love the coffee and the orange crunch.

Eloethan Sun 09-Dec-18 23:37:58

The triangle - It's green I think.

Hilltopgran Mon 10-Dec-18 01:37:30

Purple and green, but my favorite in any box is coffee. At one time you could buy an extra large big purple or big green one on their own, have not seen any recently.
