Have I missed something lately? I`ve just realised that I haven`t seen a post from Rufus recently, hope he`s alright.

Pittcity Fri 09-Aug-19 08:52:35

I was wondering that too.

Callistemon Fri 09-Aug-19 09:27:11

Me too

Where is he?

gillybob Fri 09-Aug-19 09:36:19

Oh crikey yes. I haven’t seen him around in a while. Hope he’s okay . I’m almost missing being called “Gillybarb” smile

ninathenana Fri 09-Aug-19 09:44:25

blush how could I not have noticed.

Hope he's ok.

Squiffy Fri 09-Aug-19 10:03:06

Haven’t seen him lately either. I don’t think he’s pm’able as he had a problem with them.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 09-Aug-19 10:09:15

I have missed his sense of humour, hope all is well "down under"

callgirl1 Fri 09-Aug-19 22:25:54

Come on Rufus, this thread`s got your name on it, let us know how you are, I, for one, miss you and your jolly banter!

GillT57 Fri 09-Aug-19 22:28:07

I thought at first that this was about who was going to invite Rufus Sewell to their fantasy dinner party.....there seems to be many invites for the chap.

"Sleep Therapy for Vegans; Counting Fruit"

I have missed his sense of humour, hope all is well "down under"
"Here we are again, happy as can be, all good pals and jolly good company!" grin
Thank you very much for your concerns, but sorry to be home from hospital where I've been living the high-life for nigh on 3 weeks! Three square meals a day, elevenses, threesies, evening milkshakes with bickies, menus fit for a king (well me anyway!) and room for add-ons, e.g. scrambled eggs for breakfast, but I didn't push my luck by asking for snags and bacon.! hmm
What was wrong with me?
"Down Under" wasn't far off the mark, although not sure if this meant geographically or anatomically, but either way it covered "Feet"! grinnot nice to look at and not the sort of thing you'd want to kiss better; even the nurses would balk at that!
"Lipidermatosclerosis" I've had it mildly for a couple of years, but it began to look worse so off to my GP (Dr.Lee) who referred me to lymphoedema specialist (Dr. Soo) who wanted me into hospital straightaway! Well, I need some procrastination time at moments like that and managed to delay admission to the next morning (Sat.), but then nothing happened until Mon. I think he was an alarmist or regarded me as the fly caught in the spider's web!
Nurses were fantastic and each had two student nurses to show the ropes; they do 4 weeks hands on in a hospital and are then qualified R.N.s able to work anywhere in Victoria. Most of them were from Asian countries and although they could train back home Aussie credentials are apparently more highly regarded.
One nurse in particular "Marie Claire" was lovely, she couldn't be anything else with a name like that, and whenever she approached I took to "crooning" my favourite Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Claire, the moment I saw you..." etc. Oh dear! If only I was 70 years younger! sad
Not that it did me any good. Whenever a nurse says "just a small sting" when searching for a vein in the wrist in which to stick the inevitable cannula it seems to be code for "get ready to hit the ceiling"
And in spite of my pleading, they wouldn't let me stay another week even though our weather forecast is diabolical for at least this week. More like an English summer.grin
Anyway, they didn't extend their echogram scans to my head nor extract any grey cells, although you might beg to differ. hmm Having been relegated to "OUTPATIENT" status I now have to get my own dinner.
Thank you once again and Cheers!

Still full of cheek then Rufus grin

So glad to have you back.

shysal Sat 10-Aug-19 09:11:54

Glad you are back in contact and home again.

At east the nurse didn't say 'Just a little prick'. The doctor I used to work with had to be discouraged from using the term, He couldn't see why it was wrong or funny!

GrannyGravy13 Sat 10-Aug-19 09:15:45

Pleased you are back on GN Rufus and on the road to recovery ??

M0nica Sat 10-Aug-19 09:21:37

Welcome back, and I am glad you are recovering (even if you do now have to be self-catering)

EllanVannin Sat 10-Aug-19 09:26:02

It's always good to see the return of an absentee as it gives a sense of relief !
Circulatory problems like this aren't pleasant and the medics don't always know how they came about except that in some cases it can be genetic .
Glad you're back in the land of the living so just take things easy.
And yes, you're having a rough winter across the continent all blowing from your once "conjoined twin ", Antarctica.

merlotgran Sat 10-Aug-19 09:27:01

wine Cheers! Rufus. Nice to see you back. smile

Callistemon Sat 10-Aug-19 09:36:08

Rufus good to see you back and hope you make a good recovery. Take it easy - do you have 'Meals on Wheels' over there?
I did shudder at the word cannula - could you watch your language please wink

The weather here is atrocious this weekend, if it's any consolation, rain and gales.

glammanana Sat 10-Aug-19 10:01:42

So glad to see your name in lightsRufus I bet the nursing staff miss you as much as we did on GN.

Framilode Sat 10-Aug-19 11:43:38

Great that you are back. Stay well.

Scribbles Sat 10-Aug-19 11:49:44

Welcome back!?

Anja Sat 10-Aug-19 12:36:28

?

Doodle Sat 10-Aug-19 12:52:17

Glad to hear you are still with us Rufus (even if you’d rather be we the lovely nurses ?‍⚕️ ) ?

Rufus2 Sat 10-Aug-19 13:35:48

Thank you all very much for your good wishes. It feels good to be back, although without wishing to be ungrateful, I think another week in that hospital would be beneficial, but not to be! sad Our weather is so unAustralian that it was making me homesick for the glorious summer days of the Old Dart, but where have they gone? Not to OZ for sure! Blame it on Brexit?

Rufus2 Sat 10-Aug-19 13:53:26

do you have 'Meals on Wheels' over there?
Callistemon; Certainly do! Frozen solid in Al. trays, extensive menu list, ten at a time delivered weekly, pop in the micro and hey presto! I'm always being reminded that I can't cook, but never allowed to when Vera was here. But I get by and even putting on weight would you believe; she'd be coming down on me like a ton of bricks! grin Cheers

Ellan; Thank you! You could be right! My young sister, Barbara, died just 2 weeks before I entered hospital. From what I can gather from one of her daughters, a nurse, who lived with her in Bideford, Barbara had the same problem as me, involving daily visits from nurses and home helpers, but it appears that depression set in about last Easter and she retracted within herself, confined to bed and then suddenly she was gone, aged 86. Not bad, but a sad ending.
