I enjoy gransnet as a new member, but was wondering how old you all are. I became a gran for the first time at 59 (kids were late starters!) I wouldn't have been bothered with what family call my old lady forum then but now at 74 have more time on my hands and find it interesting.

What made you join

I’m 71 became a Gran at 38 (mine weren’t late starters?) I joined as I found the discussions interesting and getting to know my local Grans was lovely.

First GC at 49 ,I'm now 66

BigNana Thu 02-Apr-20 12:16:38

I’m new to this too at 66.

I joined when I first became a gran at 62 and enjoyed reading the variety of opinions expressed, the sharing of personal experiences and the wit and wisdom of others on this site. Approaching 70 (how can that have happened!), I'm not on any other social media. Finding new ways of passing the days at home, today is the first time I've felt bold enough to actually post instead of just reading.

First GC at 48 and realised i was getting old when he started secondary school last year.
I have 4 GC and they are the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Crumbs, I was 67 before I became a granny! And it was quite a while after that that I joined GN.
Nearly 5 years after Gdd 1, I’m now granny of Gds and Gdd2, too.

Calendargirl Thu 02-Apr-20 12:24:48

I joined primarily for advice on a household matter, but enjoyed the different threads, boldly commented on some of them, then very daringly instigated one or two.

I look at Gransnet every day, but sometimes it seems the same old topics crop up frequently. Good to see fresh ones occasionally.

First and only grandchild at 53. I’m 55.

I like GN because the posters are SO opinionated. It’s the most vicious social media site I’m on! I love that we don’t adhere to the stereotypes of dotty old ladies. Although a few other stereotypes ARE unfortunately found on here.

sodapop Thu 02-Apr-20 13:06:10

My daughter & I both had our children when we were young so my grandchildren are now 30, 26 and 21. No great grandchildren yet though.

I like GN for the same reasons GagaJo here's hoping we don't get nannied into being bland and boring.

SalsaQueen Thu 02-Apr-20 13:23:37

I'm almost 61 (I'll be having a very quiet birthday on Good Friday)

My GC are 8 and 5yrs. I came on here as I found Mumsnet was a bit too young for me smile

EllanVannin Thu 02-Apr-20 13:40:29

Like Sodapop we all started early so it's resulted in 4 GC being in their 30's and one in her mid-20's. 7 GGC and I'll be 80 in October but they've all kept me young and on my toes. Can't fathom out where the years have gone !

EllanVannin Thu 02-Apr-20 13:41:56

2 of my GGC are teenagers and will be 14 in June ( twins )

Katyj Thu 02-Apr-20 14:02:40

First time gran at 45 the last two at 58, I’m now nearly 63.

Gagajo stereotypes have to have something to base the stereotype on!

I believe in the pleasures of delayed gratification and savouring the good things in life slowly. In the early 1970s I was an elderly prima-gravida (28) and DS followed where I lead. I became a grandmother at 63 and I am now 76.

I joined GN in its first few months, but under a different name, I had to change it later.

grumppa Thu 02-Apr-20 14:13:18

Oldest is 11, youngest 21 months. I'm 75.

Grammaretto Thu 02-Apr-20 14:14:03

I was 58 before becoming a gran. I'm now 71 and have 7 DGC including our first teenager..
How I am missing them!
All our DC are parents now.
I discovered GN by chance while asking Dr google something just a couple of years ago..
I'd heard of mumsnet and that certainly didn't appeal but I found some really wise people on here. I've met a few in RL now too so I can picture them.
Now in the lockdown, I really appreciate the chat.... and occasional debate!

First grandchild at 44 . I’m 58 . I’ve been here since 2011 pretty much the start . Welcome Parky smile

Granny23 Thu 02-Apr-20 14:41:01

I joined Mumsnet when my 1st DGC was expected, hoping to keep up to date with modern baby and child raising. I was newly retired at 60. As soon as gransnet started up I moved over - you could say I was a founder member. I used to post on both MN (learnt that all MILs are evil) and GN (learnt that all DILs are evil) but now just stick to Gransnet.

Grammaretto Thu 02-Apr-20 15:00:05

Granny23 grin

Curlywhirly Thu 02-Apr-20 15:01:25

First grandchild born when I was 58, 6 years ago. Joined Mumsnet first, but it wasn't for me; I found it far too confrontational and the language is ripe. Joined GN a few months ago; a much better fit, not too argumentative - if you omit the political and royal threads - and most members are kind and supportive.

BBbevan Thu 02-Apr-20 15:23:19

I am 75. First GD at 62

kittylester Thu 02-Apr-20 15:28:31

First at 58, latest in 2018 when I was 69 but along the way we have acquired 2 older dgs who are now almost 20 and just 17.

I'm now 71!

kittylester Thu 02-Apr-20 15:30:27

I joined about 3 months in from the start never having done anything like it before. It was scary!

almostelderly Thu 02-Apr-20 15:38:35

I am 69 and joined the site approximately 10 days ago. First grandchild when I was 62 and second when I was 64.
